Audition post
Verdant was closed, and as it was, Thea Queen sighed as she flipped off the lights to the office. It had been a busy weekend, full of small dramas and well-earned money all around. The building was empty now save for the nightly janitorial crew. She bid them goodnight as she made her through the side door toward the gated-off parking lot. Her sage-green convertible glistened with beads of rain, it's gleam under the parking lot lamp making her smile every time she saw it. She'd wrecked the first one she'd received, a night which she tried not to visit often in her mind. Her use of substances and her lack of care for her own health had lead to too many foolish decisions that she felt almost justifiable in her mind.
The Audi bleeped at her in response and she climbed in, stowing her purse to the black leather passenger seat. She popped a piece of New 5 gum in and started the car, it's soft hum barely audible in the still night. Just before she pulled free of the parking lot, her phone brightened with a text and soft chime on the seat. With the road dark ahead, she pulled up the phone to read a text from her brother.
"Have you left the club?"
She rolled her green eyes heaven-ward. He was such a controlling, man, especially for someone that hadn't taken any part in her life for five years and suddenly showed back up taking charge of things that weren't his business. Thea texted back with the answer and tossed the phone back to the seat, settling both hands on the wheel with a sigh. He hadn't run Verdant with focus, and Tommy had given up the management position. She was the one who stepped up and started the necessary moves to out in alcohol orders and run the night shifts. Not bad for a nineteen year old girl, but then again, she was a Queen after all. Success was their image and she had it in her to succeed when she tried.
Thea pulled into the garage and entered house, taking off her jacket as she made her way into the living room. Oliver was standing facing the flat screen, arms crossed over his chest and fiercely green eyes watching the news. She pulled off her heels and tried to read the headline past him but couldn't make it out. "You know, you stand that close to the TV and you'll go blind I hear." He didn't answer and didn't budge. Fantastic, he was fixated and moody. She hooked her fingers around her heels and leaned against the couch, "Or maybe it's deaf, something you seem to pull off well."
This caught his attention and he turned, arms still tight across his front and gaze now pitted on her. That was the way he looked normally now, liked he'd aged into some serious clone of the boy she knew as her brother so long ago. His eyes were always so fierce now, looking deep and making her feel like all her sarcasm and wit weren't enough to keep him from seeing it all. His lips were tight and thin, and his voice was low with warning. "You shouldn't be staying so late. Did you have Jorge escort you?"
She rested a hand on her hip, standing slightly out of place dressed in a tight mini dress and curled hair. Thea tipped to the left over the couch some with a look of 'none of your business.' "It's a closed parking lot and he has other work to do than walk-"
"It was a stipulation I instilled for your protection, it's not a choice. You agreed to allow it or you lose the manager status. You might be working at a night club, but you're still a young woman and The Glades are a dangerous place."
Her thin dark brows lowered and she straightened, closing the distance between them on her now bare feet. "And just when are you gonna get it through your thick, skull that you aren't my father and whoever you are now is only half of who my brother is, because he went down with a certain ship and vanished for years." She saw his hard eyes refuse to,give in, he was always so good at keeping his emotions in check and his expressions. But she knew it had hurt somewhat, she could read him between lines he didn't offer. "I'm running a project you started and couldn't finish, name another nineteen year old capable of doing such while having to put up,with her overprotective brother and let me know how that goes." She didn't wait for a response, it wouldn't matter anyway, she did t care to hear one on the matter. Instead, she turned on one heel and headed to the stairs for her bedroom.
