The yacht sailed across the hudson river with the loud music of Blink 182 shouting over large speakers “~All the small things true care, truth brings. I’ll take one lift, your ride, best trip…” Oliver Queen was shirtless and amongst so many people he had no clue who most of them were - but his eyes were traveling amongst the various red, pink, green, yellow, and blue bikini’s worn by girls shaking their hips and dancing to the music on the pool deck as they basked in New York’s warm sunlight. The yacht eased down the river with speed boats and jet skii’s passing by. It was an easy day of relaxing and comfort for Oliver as a girl had her arms wrapped around him and rested her head upon his chest. Chloe was her name…or so he hoped. “Chloe? I can’t breathe…” She rose and giggled at him provoking him to smile at her as her head moved off his chest. “Thanks.” “You’re so warm, Ollie. You also have the coolest Dad.” [c]
“Hey Oliver!” Tommy Merlyn called over to him from across the deck, Oliver would see on the other side of a Jacuzzi his best friend stood by with two girls surrounding him - both of them were interested in Tommy, but he was a lot more responsible than Oliver. Chloe would brush at Oliver’s facial hair to draw his attention from Tommy. “You look gross with facial hair, Ollie.” Ollie smiled and shook his head. “Hey, college is about growing up and I don’t have time to shave everyday…Why not embrace becoming a man?” Oliver slipped away from Chloe to meet Tommy, but not before hearing her jab at him. “A man understands responsibility, Ollie.” Ollie just smiled and took her comment to be cute. “Hey, Tommy…what’s up?” Tommy would point at the city line along the river. “Look over there…A bunch of girls just hanging out. Ben, Rick, and Anthony have been kind of striking out with most of the girls…And I haven’t had much luck either to find a really nice girl.” [c]
“Oliver!” the voice was deep and shouted over everyone on the ship. Oliver and Tommy’s attention went to Robert Queen. “One of our crafts are damaged - there’s a garage just up ahead, when we pull in I’ll need you and Tommy to see if there’s an engineer or mechanic capable of fixing the engine. Chloe can look after your guests.” Ollie nodded with ease and a smile. “Ohh, sure Dad. Hey Dad? Tommy and I saw some girls that looked like they’re from a track team…would it be okay to invite them on board?” Robert would smile and shake his head with amusement. “This is your party, son. As long as they don’t damage my boat, you can invite or do anything you want. If you decide to kill someone though - let me know, so I can handle the cops.” Robert winked at Tommy before giving Oliver a pat on the arm and walking off.
Dinah: An old corrugated metal building sat on the shores of the Hudson. The owner had an odd sense of humor, since the name of the shop read, 'Quantum Mechanics'. They obviously worked on a little bit of everything, since there were three cars in the garages. The machine shop had a boat motor. And to one side were several motorcycles. Most of the shop seemed to be a mess, engine parts strewn about and equipment and tools were about in no apparent order or reason. Save the workbench by the motorcycles. Leaning over it was a young blonde, wearing a cut off tshirt which read 'Ted's gym' and some boys carpenter jeans, which didn't hide her curvaceous hips. She was reassembling what looked to be a bikes brake assembly. An older man was bent under the hood of a 58 Chevy. He looked up as the young men entered. He wore grease stained coveralls, a patch with the name 'Rick' on it. He looked over the men."hey boys, what brings you in today?"
Ollie and Tommy were looking around, Tommy distinctly pointed out the types of engines and the likely model of vehicle they belonged to - Tommy was kind of an information broker, he was able to hook up his friends with beer while under the legal age, he had access to girls, drugs, cars, pools, hotel suites, night clubs and so it was only natural the man had a vast vocabulary of information particularly about his two interests cars and women. Oliver nodded along understanding the whole dynamics, the conversation that sparked Rick’s attention was spoken from Oliver. “What kind of car does this engine go to?” “Oliver, that’s a motorcycle fuel tank.” Tommy said almost in disbelief before smiling and shaking his head and Oliver’s reaction. “Oh. My bad.” Oliver looked at Rick and then gave the man a nod before leaning onto the casher’s counter. “Hello, my father’s boat is docked outside and the captain says there’s some engine trouble…Wondering if you have someone who could take a look at it and maybe fix it?”
Rick gave a knowing smile Oliver just picked something and his friend corrected him. He had seen many people in his day who didn't know an axle from a suspension rod! But hey that is why he got paid. The older man's eyebrows raised as the the scruffy blonde kid was obviously privileged, the captain of his father's boat... Rick looked at the young men and then towards a work bench on the far side, he gave a slow amused smile. "Well as you boys can see I got a full days work ahead of me here. But I have a great mechanic who can help you out..." He gave an ear piercing whistle. "Hey champ! Come on over here! I got a job for you!" There was some clanking of tools and parts and Champ walked around a car. "What's it today Rick? Is it a junker or a sports car?" Said a feminine voice, with an amused tone. 'Champ' was a petite, but curvey, blonde about Oliver's age. She had her hair drawn back in a pony tail and a little grease was smudged on her cheek where she had rubbed it. She wore a grey gym T-shirt and some grungy jeans. Rick gestured at Tommy and Oliver. "These boys have some engine problems on their boat out back on the slip, go give it a look will ya?"
Oliver and Tommy would begin walking towards the door giving them space to mumble between them while they turned their attention to Dinah as she approached. Oliver’s gaze immediately being hypnotized by the natural sway of her hips, Tommy would whisper to Oliver. “Her abs are more ripped than Ray’s. SHE could rape US…” Tommy did his best to seem sharp and like a gentlemen while Ollie responded quickly. “Yes please.” Which prompted Tommy to suppress a snicker. As Dinah approach Oliver pointed out the door. “Its right there, I’ll take you to my Dad…” Once they began walking to docking ramp there would be girls whistling, screaming, giggling, laughing, and teasing Oliver, Tommy and Dinah. “Woo!!!” “Yeah Ollie!” “Get ‘em tiger!” Oliver would smirk and then speak loudly over the cheer of the party guests. “Don’t mind them! Um…Do you have a name? This is Tommy and I’m Ollie.” Tommy would chime in like a recording. “Anything you need, food, drink, boyfriend, we got you covered. There’s a pool on board if you want to swim after your done sweating the engine.”
The young mechanic grabbed her tool box, which had painted stencil of a bird on it and walked past the boys to the door which led to the dock. Her steps had a certain grace to them like a gymnast. Her swaying hips showing a bit from her low rise jeans. Hearing a snickering sound behind her she paused, looked over her shoulder at the boys, before going on. As she walked down to the dock she stopped as she saw boat. What she should would be Little party boat, was a freaking yacht! And as they got closer she could see the wild party of bikini clad girls cheering and teasing them as they got close. She stopped looked back at the garage to see a smirking Rick leaning in the doorway and gave him a Dirty look. She smirked and looked at the scruffy blonde. "Just a small party with a few friends Ollie?" She teased. She put out a hand, shaking his with a strong grip. "I'm Dinah." She glanced at Tommy as he gave his offer. "Thanks. But I think I left my swimsuit in my other tool box..." She said wryly. "Soo..." She wandered through the party with the young men, looking at the crowd. "Where is the engine room on the playboy party yacht?" She smirked.
Oliver found her words were amusing and could pick up on her sarcasm. The Captain gave her a nod noticing her toolbox and appearance. “Right this way.” He lead the three of them into the engine room where they could hear the silence of the nearby systems - a computer connected to it from across the room. “I think it might be a belt that has been damaged.” Oliver and Tommy would look over the room, it was dark blue with florescent lights that created a dim green appearance as it reflected off the walls. Oliver was amazed by the appearance of the room, where Tommy was interested in the equipment, but both of them were really there just to examine Dinah as she would most likely bend over to expose the best parts of her body while diagnosing the engine.
The blonde gave a nod to the the captain and followed him to the engine room. It had an odd under the sea feel with the blue green atmosphere it had. Dinah paused since the boys were still there after the captain gave his best guess. "You guys dont have to stay, its just another days work for me. And there is a party upstairs... but if you are curious, you can stay." She said with a shrug, getting to work. She pulled a notepad out of her toolbox and had the captain idle the engine. She observed and listened with her eyes closed, writing notes. Checking the computer's diagnostics, then had him turn the engine off. Cutting the power on the engine. She then bent over the engine as she checked out the spark plugs and wiring harness. Her gym shirt rode up her back a bit showing another hint of her skin. Her upturned tush moved as she struggled to check everything out. The movement causing her jeans to slide down lower on her hips, revealing the cleft of her bottom, the occupational hazard of mechanics and plumbers.
“Oh no, it’s hard to party without you…” Oliver and Tommy were pleased to check out Dinah, like college boys they saw her mostly for her body, though if asked, Tommy would probably have a stronger connection towards Dinah due to her insight and technical knowledge of vehicles. Tommy would comment. “I’m guessing you’ve never worked on a ship or engine this big.” A moment came and he smirked to himself. “That wasn’t supposed to sound dirty, I swear.” Ollie went to stand across from Dinah and the engine to look it over and see what she was seeing and began to make an offer at her. “You know, we’re going to be in town for a few days…You should hang out with us…We’re going back out to the west coast, if you’d like to join us.” Tommy would chime in with some spirit and energy. “Yeah, it could be a vacation for you…we could pay for your time off or just pay your boss off to let you go.” Oliver would grin at Tommy’s offer and then gave a soft nod of his head. “We’ll have you back in a week or two weeks if you have a deadline or school or something.” Oliver would seem more serious now - they weren’t quite trying to swindle her away from responsibilities but, clearly the word ‘responsibility’ meant little to nothing to either of them. They were both fun guys who weren’t cynical or manipulative - just fun and relaxing.
Hearing how the sentence ended Dinah could feel the boys' eyes on her and she hiked her jeans up. Hearing Tommy's comment and his quick cover up she gave him a 'yeah, right' look and smirked. "I've worked on semi truck tractor trailer engines before, so close to the same size. And I've worked on speed boats. But no boat engines this big. Rick likes to challenge me." She went back to work and was looking at the belt the captain had suspected. She saw a pair of blue eyes looking at it from the other side. She gave a little sigh, she was just trying to work. And came the offer, bouncing between them. They wanted her to party with them for a week or two. Just whatever time worked for her. Paid vacation thanks to them. She gave them an apologetic smile. "That's a... Kind offer." She said searching for words to be polite. "But I have too much going on to just leave. Not having to worry about a missing paycheck is nice. But that old garage is my school. I learn something new everyday. And you saw the backlog of work he has piled up in there? Rick cant do it alone. I miss a week and those motors don't get fixed, and he loses business. And my second job is working in a gym helping train boxers. Who would I get to pick up the slack for training those guys?" She sighed. "It's a nice thought guys, but I got my people counting on me here." She gave a smirk. "Thanks though. Although if I finish up here, I may some time this evening, if its okay with Rick, and I don't have to take this big boy apart!" She said patting the engine. She doubted she would have time, but was being nice. She took the belt off the engine and showed it to Ollie since he was closer. "The captain was right about the belt, its worn and slipping. But it looks like the engine is over heating too. Probably something in the water flow, preventing enough water in to cool the engine." She tossed the belt to Tommy to look at as she passed him, following a water line to its strainer.
Oliver listened to her and gave a firm nod understanding her responsibilities. “Well, maybe another time.” The statement would seem like Ollie was stronger than he appeared at least in the emotional sense. Oliver could handle rejection and seemingly respect the girl for her commitments. As she revealed the belt his gaze seemed to dig into the puzzle although steps behind Dinah, he wasn’t sure what he was looking for or its significant. To Oliver he was looking for a chunk of metal that was broken off like a lego block or perhaps a massive explosion like a Hollywood movie - he was quite unrealistic with his expectations but thankfully kept his thoughts to himself. Tommy took the belt and began reading it. “Serial number is 544-E227…But there’s something else.” Tommy squinted his gaze at the damaged belt. “It looks a little melted. Shouldn’t water flow through here and act as a natural coolant instead of oil?” Tommy and Oliver followed Dinah to the strainer, both of them checked out her body whenever he back was turned and focused on the engine parts, frequently looking between her work and her body as any guy in their positions would do.
Dinah was impressed he let the matter drop so easily and found herself respecting him for understanding her responsibilities. The blonde mechanic smirked as Ollie stared at belt, missing the point. She smiled as Tommy caught on. "Thats right. Some thing is blocking this pipe, so not enough water went through, the engine overheated and melted the belt damaging it and wearing it out early. Nice work detective." She teased, sounding genuine in her little compliment. She gestured to the water and bent down to open the filter, pausing to glance up, seeing the boys quickly focus on some random engine part. She gave a chuckle and shook her head at how obvious they were! She pulled up the top of the filter revealing the metal grating of it. There was a bright sky blue piece of fabric matted and wadded up on it. She peeled it off and started to laugh. "So Ollie, did any of your lady friends go skinny dipping?" She asked amused. Holding up the bottom of a skimpy blue bikini. "It's small enough it got sucked into the intake." She tossed it to him.
-Oliver caught the bikini and smiled as he looked at it with amusement. “Um…Maybe once or twice…I’ve had a drink or two…So I don’t quite remember. “ Oliver placed the bikini onto a table and then placed his hands into his pockets. “So that’s it? It needs a new belt and that’s all?” Oliver seemed disappointed that there wasn’t something more or elaborate about the whole thing - it was a complicated tool - the engine, to Oliver and yet Dinah made it seem so simple and easy to diagnose. He knew she wasn’t lying because Tommy seemed to understand her and understand the whole system.
Dinah just smirked as Ollie looked at the bikini bottom and stumbled through his story. She smiled and nodded in response to Ollie's question. "That's all." She looked at him, tilting her head a bit, confused. Most people were happy with a simple and cheap repair job. She looked at Tommy who seemed to get what she talked about. To see if he understood his friend. "Well, I can double check the other systems to make sure the overheating didn't ruin anything else. Or give it a tune up." She smirked in a teasing way. "Or double the repair price if it makes you feel better."
Oliver leaned back and raised his eyebrows. “Well, I wouldn’t want you to overcharge it, people might get the wrong idea as to what we’re really paying for. Not that you’re that kind of girl…I’m sure you’re a very nice woman, Miss. It’s good to see a hardworking person making an honest living.” Tommy nodded agreeing. “Yeah, especially in todays age of modern sexism, how many women mechanics do you see?” Tommy’s question was posed to both Oliver and Dinah as he smiled excited by the encounter. Oliver switched his blue eyes to Tommy and gave a nod agreeing. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a woman mechanic…If they’re all like her, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of them…Especially since the men seem to be more like jerks.” It was then Robert Queen entered the room and looked between Oliver and Tommy. “If you two are done taking care of the lady, the ships sensors upstairs indicated the problem has been fixed. Miss if you’ll follow me upstairs, I’ll get you settled with the payment and time.” Tommy would chime in to Robert. “Oh yeah, she’s a good mechanic, if you have a survey to fill out, easily give her a 5 out of 5.” Oliver nodded multiple times. “Definitely. The way she reached her hand into the filter and just pulled out that-…” Robert would interrupt. “Yea, what was the problem?” Tommy and Oliver would suddenly look at each other and begin stuttering. “Well-uhh…it-it-it was uhh-…” Started Oliver who looked to Tommy, who seemed a little off guard. “Well, you see-umm…It’s-uhh…Complicated. It’s some kind of technical jargon for clogged engine, really long words that hasn’t been used in…a hundred years or something.” Oliver nodded agreeing. “Yeah, it was something that dates back to old days on the high seas, no one uses it anymore.” Robert seemed skeptical and confused as he stared between the two men.
Dinah Lance: The blonde just gave a smirk ad Ollie back peddled his answer when she teased about overcharging them. Followed by a look as his answer took a turn. Yeah, even this pretty rich boy couldn't pay her for those kinds of services! And then, he started to lay it on thick. Hardworking? He didnt know the half of it. Not that she figured that Ollie had a clue about working hard. She was working two jobs and doing nightly training with Ted. Yeah, hardworking was a fair term for her. And then Tommy was adding to the praise. He sure was excited to see a mechanic in action. "I see more women boxers than mechanics." She replied to Tommy's question. She smirked and shook her head as Ollie hinted about enjoying watching her work. Although she knew they just liked oggling her. Heck they would probably enjoy watching her make PB&j sandwiches. She frowned as he called other mechanics jerks and was about to correct him when the boat owner came in and sized up the situation.
Dinah Lance: It was clear the man, obviously Ollies dad, knew the two boys well. She was glad to hear her work cleared the warning light. Shestarted to follow him, when the boys heap praises again. And then Ollie gave praise and started to stick his foot in his mouth! She smirked watching the boys dig themselves I'm deeper, passing it back and forth. As the older man looked at them skeptically, stepped forward. I was telling the guys about floatsom and jetsom. As well as about boat engine cooling methods. Basically debris got caught in the filter, slowed down the water intake and the overheating was hard on the engine. The guys just need to make sure their guests aren't careless when getting rid of unwanted items." She smirked at them giving a teasing look. "And what I did was no big deal. It's just all in a days work." She said casually. "Any decent mechanic could fix it." She started filling Robert again. "I'll see you guys later." She said with a wave of her hand.
As Robert walked with Dinah it would be only a few seconds that Oliver and Tommy would follow the girl surprised that she helped with their cover story. But in a few moments of Robert being alone with Dinah he would knowingly begin to speak as he wrote out a check. “I take it, the filter had girls underwear or something embarrassing, hm?” Robert would smirk. “Boys will be boys. Tell you, I have a good judge of character - you going to college or starting up your own business or something yet?” Oliver and Tommy stopped behind Robert and Dinah to look at them only catching the last part of Robert’s words to her. With whatever her reply was Robert would write out a second check and hand it to Dinah. “Here, put this into the bank and save it for a rainy day. You can let people know you have The Queens’ blessing.” Robert winked at Dinah allowing her to leave as he went to see the Captain.
As they walked down the hall Dinah smirked and gave a little nod as the older man knew exactly what was going on, playing along for the boys. "String bikini bottoms." She admitted with a smile. She almost replied to Roberts comment, that some boys are more so than others, but held her tongue. She looked at him a bit surprised by his comment of God character, afterall they had just met! But she figured he was just being conversational. "On the job training right now. I am thinking of seeing the country a bit and then start my own garage or gym someplace." She waited as he paid for her repair bill. And was a bit confused as he handed her two checks. The sum on the second shocked her. "That's very generous Mr Queen... But I can't accept this..." She just got his comment about a rainy day and a look which said he meant it and he was gone. Dinah stared at the check. For a rainy day... Heck, this was for a rainy month! This would help her start a business someday... She would be able to use it. Maybe she would be able to pay back the favor someday... She quickly pocketed the checks as she turned around bumping into Ollie and Tommy. "I gotta get back to work." She did have a couple of hours left in the shop. "You guys have fun and be careful where you fling those bikinis." She teased as she passed them. Obviously a couple of party boys, but maybe Mr Queen had been one too.
The duo of dubiousness smiled and watched her leave paying attention to her curves. Once gone Tommy would comment. “I think the love of my life just left.” Oliver would grin and grab Tommy by the shoulder. “Don’t worry, there are---plenty of fish in the sea, my brother.” Oliver forced Tommy to walk onto the deck where they would see plenty of girls playing with a beach ball screaming and giggling with each other. Chloe would come to Ollie and wrap her arms around his waist. “How’d it go?” With a gentle smile and a smooth embrace around Chloe he would look to Tommy. “I think we should see if Dad’s ready to move back home…I can’t wait to go back to Miami.”
