2013 - Joins Justice League of America
While she was aware of some of the heroes and their exploits via the media, ie Superman and Batman, and she would recognize some of the alter ego names (ie: Clark Kent is a reporter for the Daily Planet and Bruce Wayne finds himself in the tabloids even more often than she does), she has never met any of the other heroes. She is aware of Black Canary only through her mother’s stories (and vice versa) as the two mothers worked together with the JSA.
Prior to events with the Center Diana had never met any of the other members of the Justice League, either in costume or as their alter egos.
A Princess No Longer - 2010/2011
With the Island under near constant threat from a shifting global power balance, Diana is sent, as the Champion of Olympus and the Amazons, to the Patriarch’s World. She is challenged by Ares to spread the ideals of the Amazon, as each believes that their own ideology will prevail.
Her time is split between New York City, where she represents Themyscira at the United Nations and at the National Embassy, and Gateway City, where she resides. She shares her NYC accommodations with her sister, Donna Troy of the Titans.
Wonder Woman, Diana’s “hero” alias, is known in Gateway as a hero, performing acts on both a small scale (setting up women’s shelters, donating time to build homes for the working poor) and on a grander scale (large fires, sinking ships, falling airplanes, etc). However, outside of Gateway City and a few smaller events in New York, Diana is viewed more as a celebrity/person of interest, much like Hilary Clinton, the Dutchess of Wales or Sarah Palin.
Champion of Olympus - ( 1990s to present )
Diana is chosen through skilled contest and combat to represent the Amazons and the Olympic Pantheon (now consisting only of Ares, Aphrodite and Athena). In this respect she is charged with protection of the island, and on several occasions engages with her mother’s former rival, Circe, and engages in combat with the Amazons of Bana Mighdall, an offshoot tribe of the Themysciran Amazons started when Antiope, the Queen’s Sister, chose to remain with her captor, Jason, after the rape of the Amazons.
The rift between Hippolyta and Antiope never quite heals, but the tribes are reunited. Artemis, the Champion of the Bana Mighdall, becomes the only woman in the two tribes who can best Diana in skilled contest. Though a better archer than Diana, Artemis is bested in hand to hand combat by the Princess. The two develop a friendly rivalry.
Battle With Ares - ( 1959 to 1970s (Vietnam War Era); extending into the fall of the Soviet Union, 1989)
The Gods of Olympus were only sustained by mortals and their beliefs in them. With the coming of a new age, many of the Gods had already perished, leaving three siblings standing alone. Among them were Aphrodite, fed by the love and kinship fostered in the post war era, not to mention the baby boom, Athena, fed by the search for knowledge that the arms and space race (fueled by the Cold war) provided and Ares, who was strengthed during the two World Wars, and set poised for even greater power with the Cold War and the crisis in Asia.
When an Asgardian assassin failed in his attempt to contain and eliminate the Olympian, he declared war on the rivals. Ares’ power is fed by on going conflict in the Korean penisula and in Vietnam, as well as the heightening of tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Ares’ sisters, Aphrodite and Athena, know what damage a war between the two systems would cause and urge Diana to intervene. Upon her intervention, the truth about her mother’s relationship with the God of War is brought to light.
At first, Diana has a hard time accepting this, not only that Ares, one of her longest fought enemies may in fact be her birth father, but surely is her ideological father, but that her mother, the other Amazons and her patrons all lied to her.
World War II - (1938 to 1945; extending into post war era to approximately 1950)
Diana heard stories her mother told her from her time as Wonder Woman, fighting alongside the Allies against the Axis forces during World War 2. When the island was threatened by outside forces, then Queen Hippolyta donned the Armour and Mantle of the Amazons, earning herself the name “Wonder Woman” among Allied Forces.
Wonder Woman (I) helped establish a group of heroes known as the Justice Society of America. When peace was restored and it was clear that Man’s World no longer needed her, Hippolyta reluctantly gave up the mantle of Wonder Woman, returning to the Island of Themyscria.
Birth/Early Education -
Diana’s real age is unknown, though she appears to be ageless. She is the daughter of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, and grew up on the Island of Themyscria, segregated from the rest of the world, known pejoratively on the island as “the Patriarch’s World” or “the World of Man,” depending on with whom one speaks.
Her early education was a project in which all the Amazons participated in. As the first child on the island, Diana was given much attention, though expected to act as a member of the collective, not a spoiled brat.
From a young age she was schooled in combat, skilled contests (such as target shooting) and horseback riding. She discovered she could fly (an incredibly uncommon natural trait in Amazons) during a swimming lesson because she was afraid of the water. Though a confident and fast swimmer now, she still remains wary of going too deep under water.
