Justice League - Passing days
A fortress towers at the highest point that men would walk, polished chrome and silver reflect back a penetrating light so powerful and intense that it would blind a man who stared directly into without the layer of smog and pollution within the planet’s atmosphere. A spire of machinery stood a monument of growing friendship and teamwork. “No egos” were the words that so importantly defined this team of men and women, perhaps the World’s finest you may call them. In the face of evil these heroes have diverted crisis, and in the face of evil they chose to place an all-seeing watch over the planet they call Home. A tower that would be a perch for these heroes to gaze and examine the people below, coordinate and strategize a plan of action. Following the events of Circe holding the planet hostage, the Justice League once more parted ways and set out to carry on their daily lives.
Where the Tower watches over the planet, stars and distant spheres watch in silence while toppling slowly towards an ever expanding universe with infinite possibilities. A long dark cape surrounded the white steel finished chair while a large street displayed Professor Michio Kaku explaining Multi-verse theories and concepts while a computer operating system revealed an ebook discussing the possibilities of alien contact and life in the universe. Another computer screen revealed a piece of bronze colored armor with a long silver blade next to it; a piece of Apokoliptian armor and weaponry left behind as the Parademons were defeated when they swarmed over Gotham mere weeks ago.
The Dark Knight studied and absorbed the information being thrown at him, his interest switching between each as key words were taken in. A fourth monitor would reveal a system alert and scanning of the planet for anything that would be attention grabbing; there were a few minor events that any single hero could handle; no doubt already being dealt with by the others or perhaps but those unaffiliated with the League, the Caped Crusader would think upon and consider the Green Arrow from Star City as a potential suspect honing in on some of these opportunities. His lips were sealed together creating a single line while his blue eyes held and were captivated by various screens in front of him, ever so often his fingers tapped to switch between sectors. This is was the expected duty, 24 hour watch and coverage.
The Dark Knight did not seem to mind this as much, he was able to do research and subtly offer his partners time for their own personal lives; which was rare from what he could tell. In silence he would encourage them to live outside their costumes and try to have a normal life. It was only a matter of time before duty would call and they must rise to answer it.
Black Canary: Dinah was sitting on the floor of Gotham Floral, boxes spead about the floor of the shop closed for the night. Going over a spreadsheet and taking notes. Inventory. It had been weeks since she properly managed her flower shop. Between saving Gotham twice, fighting Circe, and having a showdown with her mom, she was pooped and the store was showing it as well. she was glad she got a little time off, it was tedious stuff she was doing, but it had to be done. She saw her earpiece on a stool near her thought of and smirks picking it up, work could wait a bit. "Black Canary to Batman. How are you doing up on your perch? all quiet on your side of the atmosphere?" she teased.
Wonder Woman: "Normal Life" was a relative term. Some of the Justice League owned small businesses. Others owned large businesses. Some worked for other businesses. Diana was Wonder Woman. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty two weeks a year. It was her job, as the Champion of Olympus, to bare the onerous title without complaint and without faltering, for doing so could be disastrous for the mortal world, as was seen with the incident involving Circe. Recently, however, Diana had granted herself a small respite. When the Olympians lifted Circe's hex and allowed Diana to reestablish her link to her home, able to find the island of Themyscira again and speak with her Mother through their bond once more, she had taken a short holiday. In Gateway City she hadn't been missed, though her arrival back home was visited upon with some fanfare. She said only that she had returned home, and as such her royal news was no bigger than that going on in England, giving her only a mediocre sound bite
Wonder Woman: on the national news channels. When she returned home, she turned on her Justice League communicator, as it had been deactivated during her trip home. She needed time to unplug and reconnect with her Mother and Amazon sisters, and the time had been well spent indeed.
The detective’s eyes shifted to his left up the sound of Black Canary’s soothing voice, the alluring tone of a woman too naïve or too presumptuous to ignore the effect her tone had on men. He would have come to respect the feminine fatale, vigilante, and hero. Her prowess in combat was equal to him in and out of armor in almost every way. His memories recall moments of experiencing her flexibility and agility facing down swarms of over a hundred criminals that together they prevented anyone from getting killed. Something that he and his previous Robin’s had never even accomplished, not to that scale. He smirked listening to her teasing, an expression rarely seen and perhaps on display while he was secluded from any attention on the Watchtower. “Everything seems fine. Though I may go and meditate, perhaps exercise in the gym training room on board.”
Batman was aware of everyone listening in as the communication was on an open frequency to all members rather than a secluded one. “Anyone is welcomed to join me…” His last words he almost forced themselves out of him, perhaps he would get an opportunity to learn more about his team mates.
Black Canary: She heard the tone in Bruce's voice, she could almost imagine him smirking as they chatted. "Glad everything is fine. Well you have fun with that. If you need a sparring partner come down here and join me. I could use a break. Ugh so many things to count. I should get my own corporation, don't you have people for this?" she smirks. She looked at the mess about her and sighed, she didn't want to continue "I'm thinking of Calling the Princess see if she wants to go out for dinner, I think I'm burnt out on numbers. You could join us..." she leaves it hanging with a smile in her voice.
Wonder Woman: She shook her head. Diana was beginning to understand the Patriarch's world and the delicacies of flirting, and when she turned her communicator on and heard Batman and Dinah chatting back and forth, her lips curled into a smile, recognising it for what it was. Whatever did Dinah see in Batman was beyond the Amazon, however, as she saw little more than a man obsessed with his world in a way that went beyond a job well done and bordered into a compulsion that would, eventually, destroy him and everyone around him. She chuckled softly. "I'm back in town, so to speak," she said. The one nice thing about being "Wonder Woman" all the time was that flying into town without a jet wasn't out of the question. "And Gotham does have better nightlife than Gateway," she said with a coy tone to her voice, implying a jab at the larger city's increased levels of crime.
As Wonder Woman’s voice spoke into his ear, he parted his lips wanting to engage with Dinah on perhaps a date, but the idea of Wonder Woman and perhaps other League members finding out who he was caused him to recoil and seclude himself, grounded by a ball and chain attached to him. “I won’t be able to. I have to remain on the watch tower. I will keep everyone informed of the situations if something happens. Enjoy your dinner plans, ladies. Watchtower out.” He tapped a button on the flat panel keyboard to deactivate his connection to the communication link. He stood up and looked out to Earth and its sphere of blue bright and full of wondrous miracles. It brought a sensation to him, not happiness; rather a reason to keep fighting both evil and the void within his heart, one that had grown larger with the passing of time, with the loss of friends and partners.
Black Canary: Dinah simled as she heard Diana join in, sounding eager for dinner and thugs, before she could respond she heard Bruce bow out. She was about to respond, when she heard a tone indicating that Bruce and logged off. "Batman?" she paused and didn't hear anything. "Well, we could still go out Diana. Or... we could bring a little gotham to the watch tower? How about take out and the canary delivery service?" she said with a smile in her voice.
Wonder Woman: She chuckled and shook her head, noticing the slight hesitation in Batman's voice. He had been so ready to say something, but it was clear when he spoke it wasn't originally what he had wanted to say. She smiled. "Dinner and a flight? Sounds like a good time. My ride or yours, Song Bird?" she said rather matter of factly. She figured, once aboard the Watchtower, she would volunteer to do a shift, and leave the two Gothamites to whatever it is Batman had been planning before she felt the need to invite herself.
He gazed coldly out into space and found comfort in a universal truth; amongst thousands and hundreds of stars, sparkling as though speaking to each other, visible through distant ion storms and nebulas, the Milky Way galaxy was full of life and many planets were communicating, interacting. Some chose seclusion and for the most part other worlds respected this request from those planets. There was one that was ultimately left out and separated. While some of these sparkles and spheres were yellow, red, blue, green, or orange. Ultimately all of these had one shade excluded, one thing they all repulsed and only accepted at arm’s length, not because of what it is; rather because it was a necessary thing to have.
It’s existence would be infamous for being surrounded by so many, feeling the warmth of each person while also feeling the coldness as though it were a ghost, a shade that no one thought twice about. A shade that people *feared* and event tried to escape or avoid. After all, how could you tell if the planets and solar systems were bright if you didn’t have *darkness* surrounding them? His eyes softened at the darkness of space; empathizing with its lonely and necessary nature. It didn’t ask for this loneliness, it was an existence forced upon it and though it was, most likely, non-sentient, it was a universal truth to existence. Without darkness there could be no light.
Black Canary: Dinah smiled as she heard Diana willing to come along. "Well, my ride is a motorcycle. We could go through the city on it, but it has trouble making it to the watchtower." she teased. "Tell me your favorite kind of chinese food, there's a great place just down from my shop and I will pick it up for you and meet you at the watchtower, sound good?" she smirked. She had gotten closer to Diana since they met her mother, it was nice to have a female friend who also understood about heroine mothers and being a hero. But she enjoyed the company of Bruce to. They had their moments and they were nice, sometimes she wished it was more, but she never pushed him. But that didn't mean she would let him sit in his ivory watchtower either. She left her shop still wearing her ear piece, dressed in plain clothes with her dark wig, going down to the local chinese restaurant.
Wonder Woman: She gave her order and called up the Wonder Dome, the sentient creature was able to travel in outer space, though Diana did not necessarily need something with life support systems. Dinah did, however, and she imagined that the food would be cold in the vacuum of space if she didn't. She looked just as she did on the evening news, her star spangled briefs, red and white boots and red and gold girdle modeled after Gaea's herself.
He trailed the decks of the watchtower, while the feeling of Catwoman’s claws raked across his chest. The words of Deathstroke speaking to his face. “You could always offer to pay me more.” The cold words of Ra’s al Ghul “Finally you have learned to do what is necessary.” His foot steps climbed down a ramp while walking on a lower deck passing through corridors that led to the hanger bay where cargo containers and boxes settled. The watchtower was so quiet; he didn’t mind it at all, he found it enjoyable to have silence. He continued walking as the voice of Ra’s came back to him. “I’m afraid Detective, my judgment has made an error.” “What did you do?” He spoke with his lips but nothing came out, unaware of his imagination at work. “Out of best interest for my Empire, I thought it necessary to severe your ties to Gotham.”
“What did you do, Ra’s?” He stopped and his hands clutched as he felt pain. “I told the clown where he could find your Robin…The second; if I am correct…He is being held in a warehouse…” Batman’s jaw stiffened. ‘Get over yourself. Stop whining. He’s dead. He is never coming back. You failed, get up and move on. See that it never happens again.’
Black Canary: Dinah had gotten 3 orders of chinese food and rushing back towards her shop, ready to meet Diana and Bruce on up on the Watchtower. She thought about Circe and wondered when she would return, she wsn't happy about leaving Gotham, but a night with two of her friends sounded much better. She started to unlock door to her shop to slip inside. She had also gotten an order of egg rolls and fortune cookies. She smiled and took a deep breath of their their steam.
Wonder Woman: Diana coughed, stepping away from the Invisible Plane, smiling at Dinah. "Need a ride?" she winked. She had double checked and made sure that there was no one watching as Wonder Woman came to pick up the rather average and ordinary flower shop owner. "I think there's a man up there who was looking to have dinner with you," she said, pointing a finger upwards.
He remembers the feeling of his heart racing, the guilt that ran down his neck and spine that sent heat through a day of a chilling winter. He leapt off the Batpod racing towards the building with full speed when what appeared to be movement that was potentially Jason. It would be minutes later that he found Jason’s body bloody, scarred, and broken. His cape torn and tattered like an angel with broken wing, how could he have failed to this magnified of a scope? He became Batman to save lives, to protect those he cared about. He wore the mask to protect those closest to him and in that moment he had to question himself, was the mask his only line of defense? He thought he could be everywhere at once, he thought he could protect Dick, Barbara, and Jason, that somehow he had an impossible reach, never realizing how many times he played things close to the edge until Jason died. He arrived in the main computer room once again, emerging from his dark walk to
Re-experience the trials of fire he endured that brought him to this point. He reinforced, fortified, and strengthened his conviction, while reviving that pain that shot through his chest many years ago. It wasn’t complicated to understand his motives, his quest to stop another child’s dreams from being shattered. Failures were bound to happen and Jason was the greatest as a child’s dreams were shattered before they even had the chance to come alive.
Black Canary: She spun around going into a defensive positioin as she heard the cough behind her, not looking like an oridnary florist. She smiled and straightened up seeing Diana and a very faint glimmer of the jet. Her eyes widened and she smirked at Diana. "hehe I think that man has no idea we are coming. Besides we are just friends." there was a slight pause as she thought about it but quickly went past it. "Nobody needs to be alone in the watch tower. I also have some bad kung fu movies." she smirked winking running over to Diana gave her a hug and climbed into the jet patting it's side.
