Green Lantern: "This is Highball! I am going down, I repeat I am going down!" The fighter shook violently as Hal did his best to retain as much control as he possibly could. The nose dipped down sharply and Jordan pulled back hard on the stick. "Highball! Dont you dare put that plane down in public! You push to sea now!" "This thing will fall apart before I get two miles out!" "Jordan! Push-" "Ah fuck off!" And he cut his coms. Hal knew he would be in for it but this thing was a death trap. The city of Metropolis was right there in front of him and he was taking this shot. Calling in his callsign and that he needed to make an emergency landing, Hal had to fight with them a bit but finally they allowed it. One of the engines of his fighter start flaming out and he had to adjust but continued the landing. At the right altitude he lowered the landing gear and touched down, pulling back on the throttle to brake. So far so terrible but managable he shut the fighter down. "Well that was shiiiit!" The landing gear gave out and the fighter suddenly dropped and slammed onto the ground.
Lois Lane: “The name is Lois Lane. L-A-N-E. Seriously? You’ve never heard of me? I’m a reporter for the Daily Planet.” Tapping her pen her desk she held the phone between her ear and shoulder and rolled her eyes at the person on the other line. “What the hell do you mean, “security clearance”? Have you ever heard of the First Amendment…you know what? Hold on.” Sitting forward she mashed a button on her phone to switch lines as a it beeped at her. “Lane.” As soon as the words were breathed she was out of her chair, purse in hand and badge stuck between her lips and phone left off the hook. “Goin’ out!” Was yelled over her shoulder. The drive to the Metropolis airport was done in record time, not that Lois had much use for pesky things like speed limits anyway. Parking illegally she figured she’d let Perry pick up the towing expense if it came to that. A tip was leaked about a strange aircraft making an emergency landing and she was going to get that story if she had to strong arm airport security herself.
Green Lantern: The sounds of sirens drawing closer and closer hit his ears as Hal started to push up in the canopy. It fought a bit but he was able to finally push it and then climb out and slide down the side of the aircraft. Down on the ground, Hal took off his mask and pulled off his helmet before dropping both on the ground and letting out a breath of relief. He knew he was in for it as the medics and police pulled up around the fighter with the medics rushing over to his side and checking him out despite the protests. His physical health wasnt what he was worrying about so much as his job's.
Lois Lane: Pointy elbows were used to prod people out of her way as Lois made her way to a fence where gawkers had gathered. Already other press had arrived, each with cameras, each trying to get a shot of the distant plane and the pilot beyond the metal wiring. Narrowing her blue eyes she caught a glimpse at Hal, still too far away to matter then pulled herself out of the crowd. Press was denied entrance, of freaking course but Lois Lane wasn’t without ideas. Biting her lower lip she headed back to the street where a fire truck was parked and a happily greased palm later she was in the fence and making a direct line towards the plane via her new best friend - the driver of truck #7. Pulling her cell phone from her pocket she sat in the cab of the fire truck, peeking up over the side of the window while snapping pictures, staying as hidden as possible. “Talk about front page material. What -is- that thing?” She whispered.
Hal Jordan: As the medics continued to look him over, Hal noticed a small stream of black suv's surrounding a black coup speeding down the taxiway towards him. "Oh hell..." he whispered. Along the gate unmarked police cars skidded to a halt behind the onlooksers. Two pairs of people stepped out, listening to their earpieces before one moved forward while the other stayed back. Each and every person had all of their electronic devices confiscated, even their watches, and any who resisted were quickly shoved into a large van that had just pulled up. The passengers of the suv climbed out first, forming a perimeter around the site before the man sitting in the passenger side stepped out: one General Sam Lane. "Ahhh damn..." Hal cursed again. This was a day that went south quick... and it was now looping back around again. "Find my daughter," the general said, "and get her. I know she's here somewhere."
Lois Lane: The sound of approaching cars had her attention diverting away from the strange aircraft and both of her brows shooting up. “Oh hell…” Lois muttered as she quickly snapped a few more pictures then crouched down on the floor board out of sight. Working quickly she took the back off of her phone then removed the battery pulling out the memory card and stuffed it down into her bra, but not before emailing the pictures to herself. Ah, she was really starting to love this technology stuff. “Government vehicles for what, a top secret government prototype?” Holding her breath she peaked back out of the window then rolled her eyes upward. “Of course, and why wouldn’t the General be here?” Turning she crawled to the other side of the fire truck and eased opened the door, bound and determined to make her escape unseen. A few minutes later, looking a bit disheveled and one of the suits holding his nose she was walked up to the General. “General Lane.” Shrugging a hand off of her arm she straightened her clothes. “Why is it every time you show up my constitutional rights get trampled on?”
Green Lantern: Hal stood quietly, just waiting for it to start. There was something about that man that just... made you feel like a kid with his hand in the colonel's daughter. Standing at attention as Lane walked over, Hal saluted and then slipped back into parade rest when the gesture was returned. This was going to be bad... baaad. It was when he heard the woman's voice that Hal's attentioned turned from the general to the woman. *Hello.* "Lois," Lane began, "you will turn over any electronics you have. Before you leave here your computers will be replaced at both your work and residence. Your email and phone traffic will be monitored and if any of what you've seen here leaks at all then you will be arrested on treason and sedition." At this same moment, each of the people that saw the fighter crash or arrived were getting the same briefing. "Captain come with me," and the general moved to one of the suvs and climbed in. Hal followed tentatively, sgutting the door behind him. After a few minutes he stepped out again, swallowing, without any of his flight gear. By now, military police had arrived and were cordoning off the area while others covering the fighter up in large tarps. The general climbed out and moved towards the coup, "And to answer your question, its because every time we see one another your involved and trying to leak something classified. Lets go." And the group that had arrived with the general pulled while Hal was left standing there with only his flightsuit, wallet, and cell since his gear had been confiscated.
Lois Lane: For now Lois ignored the pilot, her eyes glued to the ruiner of front page stories…and fun childhoods. “What? Like hell I’m going-…” She started then flushed in anger. “You -can’t- take my computers, they have my stories on them! You think Perry is just going to sit by and let some stuck up suits waltz on into the planet without a warrant that checks out and take my things?” She started in on him. “And if I find someone in my home, I’m going to shoot first and ask questions later, don’t you walk away from me!” She nearly stomped a foot after him and gritted her teeth as she pulled out her cellphone and shoved it towards the nearest man. “You’re welcome to pass on that broken nose to the “General.” Lois all but snarled at the suit and crossed her arms over her chest as she waited. “Ever heard of a non-military airport? Ever heard of the first amendment?” She yelled after the vehicles then shoved her fingers through her hair then turned her eyes to the man in the flight suit. “…you were the pilot.” She accused then offered up her most charming smile. Just because she couldn’t print the pictures doesn’t mean she couldn’t write the story of a “possible” prototype jet landing in Metropolis.
Green Lantern: As the general and his entourage drove away, Hal was left standing there with a look ta on his face that was a mixture of depression and relief. What Lane had said to him hadnt been pretty at all, but he was leaving punishment up to his colonel. There was an issue now and one that posed a problem but before any thought train could get going the woman. Hal turned slowly to face her as she smiled, "Ooh no. No. Not pumping me for info after that." "Copy," said one of the mps who then walked over, "Miss Lane. Your SIM card." Jordan looked at the MP and then at the reporter, "Lane?... Lane..." and then he lifted his right hand up to his temples to rub them, "Of course."
Lois Lane: “Look, it’s easy. I ask you questions, you answer and I identify you as “a source”, you won’t get fired I won’t get arrested. You’re totally protected. Aren’t you airmen supposed to have ba-…Just, hold that thought.” Lois held up a finger and turned to the MP. “I’m sorry, what? What’s a sim card?” She offered a half smile to the MP, and gave him an innocent look. “I don’t have whatever that is. By all means, frisk me.” Holding up both of her hands she glanced over at the pilot as he said her last name. “Lane, yeah, that’s my name. Lois Lane.” A brow was raised as her rubbed his temples and her attention was turned back to the MP. “Look, I -really- need to go to the little girls room, airports make me nervous, so could we move this along a bit faster?”
Green Lantern: "Im not-" he started to say over her until she started towards hee. When she acted like she didnt know what was being asked for the mp got on his radio, "Sir, she's being hers-.. uncooperative." There was a pause and then the general's voice came over the radio, "Give up the damn SIM card Lois!"
Lois Lane: A thin smile was given to the MP and she reached out, snatching the radio from him to talk into it. “I don’t have a SIM card, and even if I did, you’d have to pry it from my cold, dead, fingertips. Unless of course you‘re willing to make a deal. “ She sweetened her tone some. “You keep your goons out of my apartment, and their grubby little paws off of my laptop, or your eldest child is going to spill “top secret” information given by one General Sam Lane on some mysterious jet that landed in Metro today.” She wasn’t about to let them take her home computer which had more information than she was willing to share on certain stories. “What do you say, Dad? Do we have a deal?”
Green Lantern:"You listen to me, Lois," General Lane began, "your phone has been opened and looked at. It's clear it requires a SIM card to function and I know better than to think you're as stupid as your putting on to my people. Under Title 18 of the US Code..." The general began to list of multiple sections and the punishments for violating them with the minimum total years in prison for being convicted being two years and up to life or death for others, not to mention the fines, "My daughter or I will not stand by and let you leak classified information and risk the safety of this country. Do you understand me? Now give up the SIM card and MAYBE I'll redirect my men from your home. That's the best you're going to get, young lady." With each punishment read off, Hal grimanced more and more before he had to walk to Lois' side before she answered, "Listen to me. It's best to just give it up. You're not gonna win this one and no one's gonna roll over and let this get plastered over the internet. I get that you're a reporter... but let this one go."
Lois Lane: Lois listened with half an ear, her eyes taking on a glazed over look that clearly stated this wasn’t the first time they had been down this road before. She let him continue on, until she heard the words that she wanted to hear, the “maybe”. Opening her mouth to answer him she paused as she looked up at the pilot and quirked a brow at him, glancing him over. “Easy there, Top Gun, I kind of know what I’m doing here.” She patted her hand to his chest as she clicked in the button to the radio. “I’ll take that maybe.” Shoving the radio back at the MP, Lois turned her back to the two men and fished her hand down into the bra, hips wiggling a bit as she searched for the small SIM card. Turning back, she flipped it up in the air like a coin to the MP then turned her gaze back to Hal. “So, how was your flight?”
Green Lantern: Hal lifted an eyebrow at her before chuckling, "That's Navy. I'm Air Force," and then watched tentatively for Lois' response to the ultimatum that was given to her. A deep sigh of relief slipped from his lips when she finally caved and tossed out the SIM card from her... "Creative.." he whispered although more to himself. The MP was trying to keep focus, doing a fairly good job to, but Hal had no issue with taking in the sight. The MP caught the card and quickly tossed it to the ground before crushing it beneath his boot before turning away. "Well I don't know what you're talking about," Hal said to her, "I didn't fly a thing today but.. if I DID then I would probably say it sucked." Glancing down at the pieces of the SIM card for a moment, he signed and then looked back to her, "Buy you a burger and a beer if you drive?"
Lois Lane: “Right.” Lois nodded at his correction, it wasn’t her fault that she skipped through most of the movie and paused long enough for the singing, the finger, and the volleyball scene. After adjusting her blouse for the last time her gaze dropped a bit mournfully to the pavement and the lost picture and could swear she could hear Perry yelling from downtown. The cost of a new computer, a cell phone and the loss of the pictures? Maybe she’d just eat it on the parking ticket after all, it’s not like they went anywhere but in her glove box anyway. Quirking a brow at his answer a smile tugged at her lips in response. “Uh huh, well you can tell me all about how much it would have sucked if you had been flying on the drive. I’m a really good listener.” Maybe the day wouldn’t be a complete waste after all. Giving one last look at the MP who was walking away she pulled her keys from her purse and nodded towards the gate. “Car’s this way.” A burger and a beer? If ever there was a reason to love a military man, that’d probably be the only reason she’d have. God, she loved cheeseburgers. “So should I call you Maverick or do you have a name, Captain?” Now her brain was stuck on that volleyball scene. ‘Focus, Lane, focus.’ It was a damn good thing she was used to men in uniform and that they generally did little else for her but get in her way.
Green Lantern: "Heh. Oh I bet you are and complete with a memory that'd rival a flash drive," he responded with a chuckle, pushing up the sleeves of his flight suit above his elbows and rolling the ends a bit to keep them up. With that he started walking beside Lois, falling into stride with the woman. "Well," he started, "My callsign is Highball, but the name's Hal Jordan. And it's clear that you're the General's daughter. I bet loves your profession." Glancing at her with his brown eyes, Hal smirked as they passed the gate. "And where're we headed off to. One of those expensive places where the meat's real beef through and through or the good places where the grease almost soaks through the bun." He couldn't ever think of a time in his life he had it this far east... and not kept going. Now that he was actually here it was... *Aw screw it Hal. You don't want to be here. And you damn sure didn't want to be here the way you are.*
Lois Lane: “That’s what the recorder hidden in the liner of my purse is for, actually.” The comment was idle as she moved with him. “Hal, Hal Jordan…” Reaching up she brushed her fingers through her hair , twisting few strands of it in thought. “The name rings a bell but unfortunately my mental flash drive is on the fritz thanks to skipping breakfast this morning. Have to love those deadlines.” At the mention of the General she inclined her head. “I’m number one of two of his kids. Why? Does knowing who my father is intimidate you?” Vaguely she noted how nice it was to actually -walk- out of this gate, instead of being pushed, dragged or carted away in the back of a security vehicle. “As for my job, well, you’ve got to figure I’m the pride and joy of his life. I’m sure he’s got a copy of my Pulitzer hanging above his desk.” Voice dripping with sarcasm she hit the unlock button on her key fob and leaned over to snatch a ticket off of the window, balling it up and shoving it in her purse without looking at it. “As much as I love taking strange Air Force Captain’s wallets for a test drive I prefer the grease and loud atmosphere at a bar. It makes it harder for eavesdroppers to listen in.” She tapped her hand against the roof of the car before sliding in. Waiting until he was settled she started up the car and pulled out of the airport. “How’d you get a callsign like “Highball”? The mental image that comes with it, is… amusing to say the least.”
Green Lantern: *Recorder in her purse. Now that’s an interesting and creative thing indeed. Might be a joke from the way she said it but if she’s Lane’s daughter I’m willing to gamble it was said like that to make me think that it is only to be true. Either way, I know the things that I can and can’t say and if I’m not sure well then I don’t say it.* That was the beauty of being in the military. If one didn’t know if something was clear to be said then the solid and straight, never go wrong answer was to simply decline to answer. It pissed reporters off but keeping them happy wasn’t something he was ever much concerned about. “Does the fact intimidate me? No. I have a…history,” *with ranking officers’ daughters but she doesn’t need to know that.* Hal thought to himself as he climbed into the car, “but it does make me wonder if the reporter job was done to get at dear ol’ dad. Extended rebellion phase?” Adjusting the seat back and rolling down the window, he glanced back towards where the fighter rested and, for a moment, he thought about how badly he was going to be in for it when he finally got back to Coast City and Ferris Aircraft. The General was bad enough but when Carol got ahold of him, he’d have to make her understand how much of a piece of shit that aircraft was and quick, otherwise he would really be screwed. The question about his callsign and how he got it brought a sheepish laugh out before he let out a sigh, “Well… it’s the way I am and fly. “
Lois Lane: “The name is Lois Lane. L-A-N-E. Seriously? You’ve never heard of me?
