Pyrotechnic-Skilled with bombs, explosives and fire.
 
Bi lingual- She speaks some Latin, some Spanish, some German, and full English.

Skilled butcher (only for Jess.) - She knows where to cut, and what to cut.

Frail, weak, skeletal frame- She breaks easily, broken bones are common for her.
Mentally derranged- April is NUTS. Quite frankly. She loses herself in her insanity most of the time.
Addictive personality- She becomes addicted to things very easily.
Drug addiction- April does many different drugs, including heroin (which is injected by Jess) Acid, Pcp, And LSD.
Many Phobias- April fears a creature she sees called the 'Dark Man'. She also fears The dark, Needles, and sleep sometimes.






Character Time Line

I went back just a little farther, so it would make sense. I'm going to make this brief, because most of it is explained in her bio. Which I'm going to add, because I'm bad at timelines....hope that is okay.  

BIO

Born after a simple one night stand, April Marse was not a welcomed baby. Her parent’s despised the pregnancy, and the child that came from it even more. She was raised in ignorance, and barely even made it through childhood. She spent most of her time on the streets, and the rest of the time being beat by her parents. Her parent's did not care, but she was tested for several mental disorders by her school. It was confirmed that she was developing schizophrenia. Her parents ignored it, and April became lonely. A voice formed in her head, splitting her in two. She named her Jess, and she became the dominate force in April's life.
Around her tenth birthday, something in her snaps, and it triggers a schizophrenic episode. It leaves her mad, and it comes and goes in intensity due to stress and life goings on, so some days, it is almost gone, and others, especially when on drugs, it is incredibly bad, to the point where she loses contact with reality. She has an obsession with hiding things, which grows so strong that she develops Pica, an eating disorder which causes her to crave and eat strange things. Including paper, dirt, and metal.
Soon after that, she ends up killing her parents, after a fight. She finds her fathers gun and shoots them both, point blank as they slept. She comes to eventually, and a figure emerges with her. The dark man., he haunts her. For fear of the dark man finding her parents bodies, she butchers them, and eats several pieces in an attempt to hide the bodies.

Worried, about the gunshots, the neighbors call the cops, and they are brought into the the horror that April has committed. She’s of course is sent away. She is exonerated on the murders on a plea of insanity and ended up in an average work house. From there, she progressively got more violent from anger at being locked up. Eventually, in a fit of psychosis after refusing medications for long enough (and hiding that she wasn't taking the pills by vomiting them up right after), she ends up killing two nurses. From there, she was taken more seriously, and given only one more chance. She stays put for awhile, until she is 16 and emancipated on technicality. She is released and moves to Gotham city. Now, she spends her time on the streets, bouncing from apartment to apartment, and feeding her pyromania. Switching back and fourth between Jess and herself, Jess has been known to commit some sadistic murders every now and then, in order to feed April's slight cannibalistic urges. She mostly spends her time making explosives, and taking care of her bugs. Mainly spiders.


Year 1 (2000)

Audition post



"God, what a night..." -April sighed, as she tossed a bit in the single matress she called her bed. It was blood stained, and soaked. As per normal for her mornings, on the rare times she slept. Her clothes were covered in blood, and new cuts lined her body. Blood caked her hair, turning some parts of it crimson. She stood, shakily, and wobbled her way to the bathroom. A red ring lined the tub, but she paid it no mind as she stepped into it and turned on the shower. 'Well, good morning princess.' Jess spoke,  her voice echoing throughout her mind.- "What in the fuck did you do to us last night?" -April questioned as she began to clean herself, the water cascading over paper white flesh. 'Oh...just the normal. You know, met a guy a few blocks down, dragged him back here, ...the normal. I left what's left of him for you to study in the workshop. You're welcome.' She would grin if she could. April rolled her eyes.- "Yes, thanks. I guess." - 'What, you don't appreciate me any more, Apey?' Jess cooed. April's brows furrowed.- "...I do...you just annoy me when you go after someone without telling me. And don't call me that." - 'Awww, Apey~ I don't have to tell you anything, because you belong to me, princess.' Jess spoke smoothly.- 

"Shut up. You don't own me, I own myself." -Suddenly, Aprils hand jerked towards her face. 'What was that? Do we have to adjust your attitude?' April squeaked,and tried to hold the hand down with her other.- "STOP!" -The threatening hand grabbed a scalpel off the side of the tub and twirled it between delicate fingers. 'Oh...when will you learn...' And then it plunged into her stomach, and April gasped, falling to her knees.- "FUCK!" - 'Oh stop, it wasn't even that deep, you'll be fine. Now, get up and get some work done. Or I will make it worse.' April laid there, bleeding for a moment before she pulled the blade out and tossed it aside, hand cupping the wound as she stumbled out of the shower and towards her first aid kit to patch herself up.-

"Goddammit...fucking..." -She mumbled to herself as she pulled a roll of gauze from the kit, along with a needle and some surgical thread. She dumped antiseptic on the wound and hissed as it cleaned. Then, she slid the needle through the open wound, pulling it together to seal it. She finished and wrapped the gauze around herself a few times to soak up the blood. Well, that was eventful.-

2. Given her background, there's no way I see her capable of managing explosive devices. If she was released from the hospital at 16, they wouldn't give her access to those kind of books while she was admitted.

3. Her true weakness should "Mental Instability" that would breakdown and identify each disorder she has.

4. Her addiction to things - does this include people? Because that would go into attachment and obsessiveness

5. She has drug addiction and not to tear apart the entire concept but, with someone like her not having a job I don't see it practical with her being able to buy it. (And killing well, I don't think running from gangsters all her life is what you want to do...then again it may be.)

6. Multiple-personality disorder is not listed and it should be.

8. Well done, a bit graphic but, the writing style and ability to display her personality was pretty good.

My feedback aside from the notes posted...

1. Every hero needs a villain, every villain needs a hero. Who would you say is April/Jess' hero counter part? if you could choose one (or many)?

2. Without sounding offensive to you, it may be your lack of knowledge on the topic but given that April by the age of 16 has 4 murders under her belt, after being released from a mental hospital without family to take her in she'd be sent to a youth prison with parole when she reached 18 or possibly 21 years of age where they would evaluate and decide whether or not she should be released from the state/county's custody. From the way your story reads...they just let her go out into the world unchecked and carefree (Dismissing the 4 murders she committed.) Am I missing something or being unreasonable with this point?

3. Your character lacks a mentor, honestly. Given her condition she struggles with understanding right from wrong which, in my opinion, would make her alignment "Chaotic Neutral" since everything she does is mostly motivated by self gratification or benefit. She has nothing that gives her a passage to learning about explosives, electronic devices, or chemicals. Am I wrong or misunderstanding this?

4. Given how careless she is, blood just hanging all over the place...cops are going to find her quickly, which ends her career and development. She's not smart enough to cover her tracks or has an on/off switch for sometimes she is smart enough but other time's she's not in control so she doesn't...Then we get into her carrying a body (like described in your audition post.) she's a frail body weighing 112-120 lbs...hardly enough to pick up let alone drag a 130-220 lbs person on foot to an apartment and not get noticed. What do you think?

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. I guess I should've thought that through more. Um...the angle I was going for was that the books were snuck in, by a cousin of hers. Or something like that. She'd read what she could, and then destroy them or hide them eventually. She's always been a pyro though.

She has extreme depression.



And Suicidal, and self destructive tendencys.

Yes, she gets overly attached to anyone that even shows her the slightest bit of attention, or acceptance. Even if they're horribly mean to her, she'll keep coming back for more.

Hm....she'd probably clash with any hero who doesn't carry sympathy. Or anyone who values the life of the weak, or children...as Jess has a habit of praying on the weak.

Hmm..No! You're not being unreasonable. I was actually thinking I could go with this...maybe she escaped somehow? Devised her way into Gotham, and is hiding out..

Um...if we go with that I said earlier, maybe this is fixed?

Okay. Well, April has Pica kinda. She compulsively eats, in an attempt to hide everything. She also burns...a lot of things. She cleans up most of the mess Jess makes, and tends to keep bloody bits to the 'workroom'. Which is behind a large metal door. She normally lives in an abandoned warehouse, which she took over. The door is always locked, and only Jess knows where the key is.

If you’re not sure what Earth you’re applying to, it’s a good idea to ask! We’d be happy to explain about the different Earth’s so you could know which one is suited best for your character.

I absolutely enjoy the idea you have going beyond this character, the dual personality is shown very well in your audition post but what is her driving force, exactly? You explain that she’s insane and so is it that she’s taking a Joker-esque stance on just wanting to see the world burn?

Also, I’d really like to know what you’d want to get out of an RP in this group. Who would you want to role-play with? What kind of story line are you looking for? Is she just going to be randomly running around and setting things on fire and slitting throats? Keep in mind, she’s in Gotham City which has a good amount of vigilantes so it’s not like she won’t get tracked down, especially since it seems she doesn’t have much going for her in the way of hiding considering the alternate personality. Are you looking for her character to perhaps is “saved” by another? The baseline concept for the character is interesting, but you need to tighten down some of the details, maybe along the lines of what Bruce was suggesting depending on how you feel.

Think about the fact she doesn’t have any money but uses her body to get drugs. That doesn’t exactly work when it comes to hiring a goon, so maybe perhaps think about having a way that she makes money, unless you’re considering putting her down the prostitution route.

Find that specific driving force, find a way for her to be able to dig her heels down into something, otherwise I’m afraid she’d get stuck in one RP and then that’d be the end of it because of her skills or lack-there of and you won’t be able to get much else out of her in these group RPs.

Jess, who is the chaotic one. Haha. She's more of a 'watch the world burn' type. She has no self worth, and honestly....just lives to make April miserable. April, she's not in it to be bad, she's in it to try and live. She craves normality, and pushes Jess away to achieve it. Yet, she comes crawling back to her when she's scared, or needs protection.

Well, I think trying to find someone to 'save' her, or whatever...works best. ...Did he say say something other then what I responded to? As for what I'm looking for, rp wise... I just want to be able to use this character again. I miss playing her seriously. I miss having people to write with.

Okay, so you need to nix this idea with the books. As a writer you need to think about the plausibility, without hindering creativity. You need another angle to come at this problem. Hold that thought and continue reading my response.

Attachment and obsessiveness have those connotations. Again, we're on the same page here.

I don't know how many dealers you know of or their behavior, but that wouldn't fly. Mark this down as a problem unsolved. It'll all come around in a sec...

I'm going to be a little harsh here because this question is straight forward and gives everyone (you and us) a target as to what you're aiming for.

A vague response like this is blanketing and dismissive. Lex Luthor is an intellectual genius and criminal mastermind, his counter part? "Anyone who likes science, are lawful and things." would be extremely insulting to readers, the characters, and the concept trying to be invoked here.

I want a character name that you're shooting for. It makes the difference as to whether Green Lantern curb stomps April or Cyborg puts out an APB.

Sinestro (Space alien) = Green Lantern villain.
Gorilla Grodd (Mutant Gorilla) = Flash villain.
Veronica Cale (Business Woman) = Wonder Woman villain.

Okay, that's a near plausible idea...

Smuggling books from a cousin who doesn't have any real precedence? Possibly. You'd have to expand on that.

Okay. Well, April has Pica kinda. She compulsively eats, in an attempt to hide everything. She also burns...a lot of things. She cleans up most of the mess Jess makes, and tends to keep bloody bits to the 'workroom'. Which is behind a large metal door. She normally lives in an abandoned warehouse, which she took over. The door is always locked, and only Jess knows where the key is. 

Here's an idea I can pitch to you. Tying all of which you have compiled thus far.

You need books and supplies for your character. - check
You need someone to justify her knowledge. - check
You need a source to get drugs. - check
You need a mentor - check

Why not go to the obvious place where you can get those things?

An Asylum.

Particularly a director or psychologist seeking to exploit April's predicament. They would be in a position to feed April knowledge on chemistry, biology, neurology, forensics, math, etc. This gives you direction of your character and helps cultivate who you want her to be.

She's effectively being trained into a puppet that kind of gets into the position of Ventriloquist, where the disorder controls the person, as Jess wouldn't have a problem using April's "new found knowledge" to her own ends.

The person who uses her could've made a deal, he forges the release papers...(or helps her escape) and she does his 'dirty' work. And anything else he needs. He supplies her with drugs, and books, and she slowly starts to learn.

As for her 'target'?

She was originally made to be a Batman villain...

So my comment got bugged out earlier. But basically most of the admins were pretty thorough. I don't want to be picky about your Pica idea, but keep in mind that it is an eating disorder that usually focuses on the consumption of inedible objects that usually have no nutrients. Not only can this cause scar tissue and damage internally, it also can cause extreme weight loss. In April's case she may have a weak frame and is most likely to lose her weight till she reaches 90 lbs! It's a crazy fun disease. I'm glad you were so specific about including this in your application!

3. Create a personality and motive along with a profile of this mentor character you need. Batman Inc has a "Significant relationships" section, this is where you would include the person's name, his motive, and where he fits into April's life as a whole.
