Countdown to The Nexus Crisis
Batman: The Forged Trinity
Batman: The Forged Trinity
A storm cloud cloaked in the sea of stars slowly approached from the distance, a gothic city horizon of spear shaped skyscrapers and wire framed steel cranes perched themselves above the citizens below. Flickering lights within the clouds brought them definition as a gloomy shadow eclipsed the obsidian paved streets that made up the city's veins. Tears of the angels poured down onto the stone gargoyles as they sorrowfully weep through a choir of thunder and lightning ushers closer. Their tears, unlike the tears shed at closure or departure of a loved lost, were from the impending trial which is at the very epicenter of the event soon to come. Amongst the gargoyles holding form true to the beasts, the dark knight of Gotham molds his posture to his stone companions and observes the on coming storm while his mind drifts into the pool of thoughts on recent events.
'I know people think it's extraordinary to leap from tall buildings - because it is. It's extraordinary to move faster than a speeding bullet. It's even more extraordinary to stand before God's throne and tell him "No, today is not the last day on Earth." Superman and Wonder Woman may seem like Gods among ordinary people, their nobility, strength, honorable nature makes them even more intriguing. They aren't like me in a lot of ways, but they are like me in other ways. We fight for those who wake up at 7am to catch the early morning flight. The kids walking down the street to school. We reign justice down upon those who seek to do wrong and hurt other people. Who are Superman and Wonder Woman? For now, we'll have to accept whatever secrets each of us have and leave it to rest upon that bed. I look forward to working with them in the future as I have a gut instinct telling me there will be a next time.'
'The storm that's coming this way will either destroy the world or save it. If it's anything I've learned from my experience fighting crime, it's that there is always escalation and that for every victory there will be someone to challenge the victor. I recognized a long time ago that I can't be there to save everyone from everything and at times this job can get pretty depressing. Meeting Superman and Wonder Woman has stirred a lighter spirit within me and maybe it's possible that among the darkness there are those who can bring the light out of me...As much as I don't like it. It's refreshing and something that I don't experience very often in my line of work, dealing with dead bodies and psychopaths. I believe there are more good people in this world than there are bad ones, but I've noticed the numbers are often times seen as few against many. I've worked with partners in the past but, partners of Superman's caliber is a whole other tier I'm unsure I can compete.'
'Superman can roll a tank like its dough. Catch a bullet like a feather falling through air. And speed through a city to wrap up three crime scenes in the time it takes to cuff one thug. As invulnerable as he is, I've seen him bleed and I've seen his heart and clearly he cares about people on this planet. When faced with his own mortality he is as brave and as bold as those who put their life on the line for others.'
'Wonder Woman can lift an incalculable amount of weight. She has the purest heart I've seen in any human being, rivaling that of an innocent child. With a distinct ability to unite people with common goals, I don't think I could've tolerated Superman as long as I have without her wisdom and mediation between us. When deception and lies surrounded us, her mastery of the truth lit the way to our purpose for being here.'
'They are two extraordinary people and I will be glad that whatever crisis may happen, I can count on their strengths to compensate for my weaknesses, and my strengths to enhance theirs. I look out at the dark skies and I can hear my city speak to me, the shadows whispering that something bad is about to happen and I may need more than just Batgirl and Robin to get through it. I may need a man who can stop a train with his fingers or a woman who can leap in front of bullets with courage and fearlessness. Whatever we have accomplished, we have forged something significant and powerful for good against evil.'
-The End, to be continued . . .
