Audition post
The clothes on her back had been provided by Kal, and via extension, someone who assisted his alter ego, Clark Kent. A hooded blue sweater, jeans and canvas sneakers. There was no way the man would purchase something for the female teenager. Kara made it difficult herself - she was a constant staple at his side - when not under house arrest in his ... let's call it Fortress of Solitude. It was understandable; she had lost her friends, her family, her home... and found herself on this primitive world with a man claiming to be an infant she held - in her mind - days earlier. "Why are they so loud, Kal?" The pair, standing on a rooftop, stare across the city skyline; a training exercise, to accustom Kara to the unrelenting onslaught of activity. He learned to focus and hone his skill as a child on a farm... she was at an unfair disadvantage. The city did not sleep.
"Focus, Kara, on the siren... pin point the direction, the ambient sounds."
Her eyes narrow; the single siren is picked out of a dozen or so crying across the city. It is louder, with a hiss to it's wail; distinctive from the others.
"It is a firetruck. Can you hear the horn?"
Nodding, Kara turns her head just enough to cast a sideways glance to the man at the ledge with her.
"Tell me why it is on the road."
The obvious sign, a plume of smoke above the skyline, is missing; Kara had learned quickly about emergency services - they were among the first to greet her upon arrival in Gotham Bay. The question forces her to train her attention solely on the source of the sound; the kirik of metal brakes pressing outward to slow the momentum of the vehicle tells her they have closed in on their destination. It allows her to pin-point the source of the alarm: a man screams from inside a vehicle, his voice echoing along the interior. Other voices call out to him. Someone cusses - a word Kara has not yet learned, but the intent is evident. "I think... " Her head cants, eyes narrowing, as if she can see the scene laid out before her. Clark intentionally selected this building, high atop the city, for the sole purpose of forcing her to rely on her other senses. "There was an accident. A car crash. No one is hurt... but..."
"But what?" Clark turns his head to address the younger woman head on.
"A man is trapped inside his vehicle. He did not check his blind spot and turned into someone." All of the information was surmised based on the conversations Kara could piece together. "He will be free in a minute." The sound of the Jaws of Life, huge metal shears, tearing through the steel door was easily discernible; Kara had produced the very same sound with her bare hands to achieve the same result... once upon a time. "Kal..." Breaking her concentration, Kara pivots about to face the taller male. "If it was his fault - why does he say the things he is? They're only trying to help." She simply does not understand that to some humans, a car is a symbol of status... and it is blasphemy to cut through a Porsche - even one smashed into an unrecognizable state.
