“Chucka Chucka Chucka.” Were the words that mumbled out of his mouth while the train from Bludhaven to Star City rode at a high speed. His black gloves were stained with blood creating an authentic acrid scent. The vehicle bounced around as he pulled out a news paper to read. ‘Star City - Home of Green Arrow and Black Canary, recognized by the police for vigilantism as well public service. Both praised and condemned by Police Captain Lance’ “Pop!” he said before beginning a new chain of sounds. “Swoosh-sshhhhhhhh-Shic!” a black sharpie marker would encircle around Captain Lance’s name. “Slsssssh-squeak!” An underline upon the name Oliver Queen on another article, followed by the name Camryn Claire. “Slsssh-wherk wherk. Bwoop.” A ping would ring throughout the train car. [c]
“Attention all passengers, we’re arriving in Star City, we thank you and hope you’ve enjoyed the ride.” The strange man stood up and folded the paper. “Swoop, crackle crackle, flack!” And tucked the paper under his arm to begin walking. [c]
It would seem odd to some, but not to Oliver or most who ever had the chance to glimpse at him. But the forests of Star City were the places Green Arrow liked to reside and operate from, the flora in the city provided a lot of cover and surprising amount of camouflage from one building to the next. Patches of city blocks dedicated to green bushes, large trees, or cherry blossoms allowed for the vigilante merry man to maneuver and dodge between streets and cars to get from one destination to the next. Right now Green Arrow was working on a strange case that no doubt caught the attention of a lot of people. Two Green Arrow / Black Canary inspired vigilante’s were killed by a slasher, but the wounds were ferocious as the blade must’ve been thick, but also small as the knicks on the victims skins were small and seemed to have more impact damage than lacerating. [c]
There was also something else… Green Arrow wasn’t sure what it was but, had taken a tattered cloth from the crime scene and kept sniffing it, it smelled like body odor but, not quite authentic…A type of mass produced perform or cologne?
Huntress It was time for a vacation, she had decided when the last three leads she had gotten had run her into more of the Batfamily than she was willing to continue to deal with. They were encroaching on her space, on her cases and if she had to deal with one more snarky, perky, vapid, purple costumed annoyance she was going to absolutely scream, or start loading up teargas bolts into her arsenal. It was hard enough to lurk around Gotham City without having to worry about stepping on any toes, it was hard enough to lurk around Gotham City at all some days with the memories that plagued her. So it was time for a change, and the young woman had considered off and on if she shouldn’t try to make it permanent, start fresh, really give herself a chance to make a new life for herself. It wouldn’t have been hard, to keep the name she had, to travel across the country, maybe enroll in a different University and get a job, a real job. -
Huntress Helena shifted in the seat and rested her forehead against the glass of the train window, a knee pulled up to her chest and her arms wrapped around the jean covered leg and let out a soft sigh. Her ribs still ached from the impact of the fist that had hit it the night before, there was a bruise fading from around her neck where a chain had been wrapped and yanked on and she was pretty sure one of her toes was broken - at least that was from stumbling into her coffee table. Already the scenery was so very different. There was green everywhere, and it looked cleaner than her not-home and somewhat alien to her. “It’s not like you haven’t been other places in the world.” She muttered to herself as she barely heard the announcement of their arrival in Star City over the blasting of music in her ears and stood to grab her duffle bag from the overhead bin. As she walked down the aisle she glanced at a fallen paper and the headline before she smirked a bit. -
Huntress Well, she couldn’t have left everything behind. Slinging the bag onto her shoulder and grabbing a small suitcase with it the young woman stepped off of the train and took a deep breath. Someone was running amuck in this city, and since it seemed the two residents couldn’t pin down who was killing off look-a-likes she figured she’d give them a hand, whether they knew they wanted it or not. “Here’s to a happy vacation.” Helena grinned as she glanced down at the small suitcase containing her suit in a hidden compartment and moved to check into a hotel.
He could almost feel it around him - a set of eyes observing him. A loud blast was shot off and Green Arrow leapt in what seemed like lightning speed, but the shot had missed anyway striking a tree to fragment it and splash splinters of wood around. Green Arrow gritted his teeth as he was struck by multiple fragments. He rolled upon the ground and armed his bow to see a man dressed in green military BDU’s along with combat boots and a camouflaged vest. Tribal necklace made of Native Indian symbols and animal teeth. A large machete swung towards the Emerald Archer only to be blocked by Green Arrow’s longbow. “Hey pal, Predator was shot over 20 years ago, you’re late for the auditions!” Green Arrow’s leg would swipe underneath his assailant and trip him. This was Oliver’s first chance to observe the man’s masculine structure. [c]
“And you’re a fool for resurrecting one of the greatest huntsmen into the modern age. I am Big Game and you are my prey!” Green Arrow armed his bow to point an arrow at Big Game’s foot. “I’m not prey, I’m just a merry man!” A shot struck Big Game’s foot causing a small explosion that created dust allowing Green Arrow to hop away holding his side.
Huntress The dark haired woman wasted no time after she checked into the cheap hotel of finding her way out onto the fire escape in full gear and taking to the rooftop to gaze around the unfamiliar city. She rolled her shoulders, stretched out her arms above her head and then took in a deep breath. There were so many places to start, and as she pulled out a map from her belt that she had marked the deaths of the copycat vigilantes she decided maybe the first thing to do would be to familiarize herself with running on the new terrain and turned her blue eyed gaze to the trees around the building. Now that was such an odd sight, but it wasn’t like she hadn’t become Tarzan for an evening before to leap from branch to branch instead of from roof to roof. That was a skill that her mother perfected far better than her father ever did and she couldn’t help but smile a bit as she walked towards the greenery. -
Huntress It took a while to get used to it, to get her balance in check though she used the weight of her cape to help as she maneuvered the edge of the forest and realized that she was actually having fun. Fun of course was nothing that ever lasted and when the sound of a small explosion reached her ears she paused as she crouched down on a high limb and turned her gaze downwards as words floated up towards her “merry man”…what? Was she suddenly in some sort of reenactment cosplay? Slowly she stretched out, moving down silently to a lower branch until she could see the man below her more clearly, as he seemed to hop away injured. Eyes cut up then to gaze beyond the branches to try and see if he were being chased and then cut back down again. It would figure she hadn’t been there for half a day and already there was something to do.
He had no idea of Huntress’ presence but didn’t care as Big Game picked up his rifle and began stalking through the brush. Big Game would seemingly know of Huntress’ presence as he began to adjust his movement and patterns subtly. His M-16 rifle was modified with explosive rounds. His machete was holstered neatly on his hip and his movements were steady. Oliver’s eyes settled upon Big Game, keeping his bow low and his body crouched. His felt hat kept him vaguely camouflaged amongst the thick bushes and trees, only a red feather sticking out of it. Reaching to his quiver he loaded a shot into his bow and took aim at Big Game’s rifle and would whisper to himself. “Lets see how you do without your toy.” A hiss from the bow string released the polymer arrow that struck the rifle and pierced its upper receiver damaging the gun permanently. Swiftly he reloaded another shot only to spot Big Game leaping behind a bush and reaching to his back for something. [c]
When the slashing through bushes rustled about him a boomerang passed by him slashing up everything in its path and forced the Emerald Archer to duck while his assailant charged and kicked him into a thick oak tree. “Arghh!” Oliver groaned and squinted his eyes before opening them to see a large boot coming towards his chest. Lifting his longbow he caught the boot and tried to push against it like a pull-up bar before throwing the boot to the side and tap-dancing around Big Game, who matched Green Arrow with a similar tap dance to circle around his prey. The Arrow swung his bow left and right. “So, Big Game? Does killing cosplayers and wannabe’s count as a challenging sport? All things considered, I think I’m a little OUT of your league.” Big Game armed his machete and swung it to an evading Archer while growling. “I knew killing them would lure you out! You’re a predictable prey, Green Arrow!”
Huntress Huntress breathed softly through parted lips, her chest rising and falling as her eyes took in the situation below her. Wearing what she was and crouching in a tree wouldn’t have given her near the camouflage that Green Arrow had, however she didn’t particularly want it or need it in this situation. If the man that was getting attacked was a mimic of whoever the Green Arrow really was then he wasn’t going to last long against the fully armed man who was chasing him. Slowly her body shifted as “Big Game” stalked towards his prey and her hand came down to the compact crossbow at her thigh as she adjusted, lining up her body, picking out the red feather hidden in the green easily. ‘Way to paint a target.’ She considered the stomach window the previous Huntress had used then shrugged both of her shoulders. Well…to each their own after all. -
Huntress As the larger man attacked with an unusual weapon Huntress was jumping down from the tree branch, the grass muffling the movement as she remained crouched and lined up the sight of her crossbow. She couldn’t help her nose from scrunching up at the odd corny lines being delivered from the obviously blonde man but it looked like he held his own well enough. A second was all she needed though and as that machete was swung and the Archer evaded she loosed a bolt, the shiny metal object aimed to burry itself right into the back of the thigh of the machete wielding crazy man. “God you both talk a lot.” Huntress commented as she stood up straight slowly, whether or not the bolt missed to watch the two.
As the bolt flew Big Game’s machete swung and came in front of the bolt to shatter it, promptly Green Arrow shot two arrows at point blank range only for Big Game to shatter both with his machete with a swing. “I talk too much?” Was Oliver’s snipe back at Huntress as Big Game swung his Machete towards Huntress attempting to slice her face on a horizontal swing. The man’s mass and bulk made typical martial arts leverage unlikely to work so, if she were to grapple onto him, it would’ve proven difficult to throw or manipulate his body without risk of crushing her own. Green Arrow shot an arrow into Big Game’s left shoulder but the damage didn’t seem influential. The serial killer twisted his body and kicked Ollie in the chest throwing him backwards and into a tree before spinning on his toes into a whirlwind and bladed fury, swinging his machete to slash and cut through the bushes and tree branches surrounding him and Huntress. [c]
Green Arrow rolled onto his stomach and continued to grind his teeth as he felt the sharp splinter of wood digging into his side, underneath his leather tunic he could feel the blood pooling as it dampened his armor with a dark red liquid. He gritted his teeth and stood up to see the hurricane of blade swinging, his eyes were acutely studying like any hunter would of their prey.
Huntress “You talk too much.” Huntress confirmed as she leaned back quickly and brought a heavy boot up to plant on the thigh of Big Game to bring herself into a quick back handspring to put distance between them, her cape snapping harshly in the wake of her quick movement. “And you’re really kind of corny.” Landing in a crouch she quickly reloaded her crossbow calmly as Big Game decided to punt the one in the green hat past her after taking the shot from the arrow like it had been nothing. “Are you really the Green Arrow?” As Big Game turned on his toes she watched his movements carefully, stepping back as her brows rose behind her cowl. He was fast for such a large man, and as those swipes got closer she caught a branch from a destroyed bush and fired the next bolt right at Big Game’s crotch while bringing up her left arm to shove the stick towards his eye before she spun around and put the trunk of the tree at her back in case he decided to keep swinging. -
Huntress Leaves tangled in her dark hair as did small twigs and she turned her eyes back to Green Arrow as he stood looking him over slowly as a woman would an attractive man though her eyes were looking for damage, which she found. “So, is this a friend of yours?” Huntress asked conversationally as she popped up a bolt out of her utility belt that had a round object on the end.
To her question of his identity he would snipe back. “Well, I’m no Kevin Costner and definitely not Cary Elwes…So, yes. I’d say I’m Green Arrow! Don’t let the Felt Hat and Feather fool you.” Big Game would receive Huntress’ receive bolt to his inner thigh causing him to growl in pain and it seemed to slow him down. When the corridor of trees became too tight, Big Game settled for capoeira techniques of spinning and kicking to send Huntress off balance. Green Arrow would drop his bow and roll onto the ground reaching for two darts on each wrist to hurl them at Big Game’s large forearm the shots stabbed in to him with almost no real impact or damage. Jumping to his feet he rolled towards Big Game drawing his attention, and with monkey agility Green Arrow would tumble left and right, rolling past Big Game forcing the man to spin and dance as sweat began to brew upon his brow and neck. Keeping up with two smaller and agile opponents was not easy,[c]
but the man’s style allowed him to maintain speed. Oliver wasn’t a small man either, standing at 6’2”, his lack of muscle mass compared to Big Game allowed Oliver to be fast as Huntress as he weighed in around 170 lbs. Picking up his bow as he rolled he raised it to block a machete swing that almost cleaved his head off, quickly Green Arrow grabbed Big Game’s wrist and swung his legs up onto the man’s body wrapping his ankles around Big Game’s throat and tugged Big Game’s arm to pull him giant man down. “Timber you son of a bitch!” Oliver growled curling those lips and that blonde mustache into a sneer.
Huntress “But are you wearing tights?” The question was asked and then she was stepping back, body ducking and swaying with each step as the man currently trying to kill them switched up his style of martial arts like it was nothing. ‘Who in the hell is this guy?’ Suddenly she stumbled, shoulder bumping back against a tree and then she was ducking back quickly to fall into a self propelled roll to put more distance. “You’re going to have to do better than throwing a couple of cheap piece of metal.” Somehow she ended up the distraction for the moment to a guy she didn’t know, certainly didn’t trust and who looked like he could be bleeding out at any moment. Clenching her teeth she moved opposite of the two as the attention was drawn, waiting for the moment to fire off her crossbow again. -
Huntress It didn’t need to happen though as Green Arrow got off a decent attack, bringing them both of them down to the ground and she lunged forward, bringing a heavy boot crashing down onto the free wrist of Big Game so he couldn’t reach for another weapon or attack and bringing the heel of her other boot quickly across the large man’s face to knock him unconscious.
Once the man was down he forced Big Game into unsconsciousness and then pointed to the darts on the man’s arm. “Those are tranquilizers. Funny the Big Game hunter should be taken down by tools of his craft.” He sat there for a moment and then pulled out some rope from his quiver to tie up Big Game’s wrist together and against a tree. “Tell me, where did you learn to shoot that thing? Your technique is…lacking. For instance, you could improve your fire rate for a few seconds by loading spare bolts on your wrists. You could also attach a laser pointer if you’ve got some electrical tape and a laser. And reading your weakness, the best way to improve your interplay tactics.” Oliver explained and then offered his hand. “Green Arrow, pleasure to meet your official acquaintance now that the ogre is down.”
Huntress “Hah.” The dry laugh left her lips, sarcasm leaking from the singular syllable as he mentioned the man being taken down and she shook her head, stepping back as she watched the two of them as her cape moved in front of her body to hide her torso and arms from view. Fingers felt along her belt slowly as her crossbow was put away and as she watched him, a sharp hidden brow raising at the fact he jumped right into conversation about what she could do better. Silently she stared at him not moving even as he put his hand out towards her for a long awkward moment and then she stepped forward and clasped her gloved hand in his. “I’m not adding a laser pointer, and a wrist mount would get in the way of my other assets.” Why in the hell was she explaining that to him. “You’re not about to pass out or anything are you? I’m not from around here and you look heavy.” Her eyes dropped down to his side and then she looked back at him. “Huntress.” She introduced herself simply.
“Well, truth of it is, I’m surprised I haven’t passed out sooner.” That was a lie, but she did see him get the crap beaten out of him, so playing up as the underdog might’ve been beneficial. “Huntress? I used to know someone by that name…” Green Arrow began walking through the flora. “So you’re new around here…I’d say you’ve picked hell of a spot to visit, the beaches are fantastic if you haven’t seen them. Personally I prefer the burger joints and outdoor picnics. But if you need someone to spar with or teach you how to use that pea-shooter, I can make an effort.” Green Arrow pulled off his felt hat and began to smoothen it out along with the red feather that had wrinkled from his rolling around on the ground. He licked his gloved finger and gently began to smooth out the kinks.
Huntress The words “I used to know someone by that name” were ones that she dreaded hearing more than anything else. Inside her mind Helena was hoping beyond hope that there was no way in hell that someone would have known Helena Bertinelli all the way on the other side of the country, and that ending up standing with the person who might have was odds that couldn’t happen. No seriously, there was no way. “Popular name I’d imagine. Especially around these parts it seems,” She said gesturing to the downed “Big Game”, but her blue eyes cast downward so they would be shadowed by her cowl and she hunched her shoulders just a bit more. “Visiting.” The words were spoken clearly, as if she didn’t want him to get the wrong idea of her staying and then she nearly laughed when he offered his services to her, then decided to laugh anyway. “You don’t even know who in the hell I am and already you’re offering to be my sparring partner?” Was he stupid or cocky? -
Huntress At the gesture of pulling off his hat she scrunched up her nose as he licked his glove. “No offense, but…I don’t even know if you’ve had your shots.”
“Suit yourself, I’m not going to baby sit you though. I’ve got better things to do than play nice with the tourists…No offence.” His last words were meant to mock her and her youthful deamnor. “If you’re expecting some guy with a stick up his ass, you’ll find him in Gotham. Out here, things are a bit more relaxed. If you get too caught up and wrapped in the heat of the moment, you’ll lose your mind quickly. Cartels, bikers, cults, syndicates, assassins, corrupt CEO’s…They’re all over the place. Best thing you can do is change what you can and try to make things better for the little guy who can’t stand up for himself. At least I’m hopping that’s why you put on that mask…And this isn’t some kind of girl with Daddy issues.” Green Arrow reached his bike and rolled it out of the brush to sit on top of it.
Huntress “Baby sit? From where I was sitting if you didn’t have me as a distraction to that “ogre” of yours, this would have turned out a lot differently.” Wonderful he was oh-so-charming - what was it with blondes who liked to smart off so much in the vigilante business? At the comment about the guy with the stick up his ass Huntress seemed to grow still as if she wasn’t quite sure how to take it and then she couldn’t help the quirking of her lips upwards or the laugh, the real one that forced its way out of her. “No, I’m not looking for Gotham, but from the looks of you, if you got any more relaxed you’d be in a ditch or stuffed and mounted.” As he listed off what was there she just simply listened, no…none of that was anything she was worried about and then her jaw tightened. Daddy issues? Well…he wasn’t wrong in one way but it wasn’t about to be told to him and then she was shrugging her shoulders. -
Huntress “I put on this mask right now, because I don’t think getting caught running on rooftops without it would do much for my social life.” Looking over the bike she tipped her head then looked back at him. “I’m on vacation, you and your friend just happened to be in my way of my relaxation time.”
Oliver smiled at her finding her words rather amusing - of course he didn’t quite believe her story of being on vacation but would dismiss it as a mere passing thought. “Well, if this is your idea of a vacation, you got quite a bit in common with a few people I know. Enjoy your stay in Star City. Remember - burger joints are fantastic.” He revved the engine to give out a growling purr before the bone crackling snaps of twigs and sticks occurred and the vehicle zoomed out of the park and onto the highway. Inside the Arrow Quiver he was patching himself up and monitoring the police frequencies. The room had blue and greenish florescent lights that reflected off blue walls and floor tiles creating a very light haze of green mist throughout the entire room. Display cases of Green Arrow and his partner’s uniforms were hung up on the wall with biomatrix setup for each users suit.
