Character Origin: Mixed. Comic book and a bit of OC stuff.
Face Claim's Name: Oded Fehr. Back when he had long hair.
Name: Khalid Ben-Hassid, "Kent Nelson"
Alias: Doctor Fate
Race: Human
Age: Well over a century. Made immortal by magic.
Birthday: Unknown
Alignment: Lawful Good
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 190 Ibs
Hair:
Black, graying. At times white.
Eyes:
Black
Physique: Khalid possesses a toned body structure well befitting one who prefers to combat threats using his wits and mysticism rather than devote himself to physical pursuits. Although certainly not slovenly nor unfit in any way though, as he was no stranger to having to throw a punch in the rare circumstances that magic would fail him.
Training: Khalid is the world's leading authority on mystical and mundane artifacts and ancient civilizations, versed in many dead and not-so-dead languages and possessed of an intellect that made him a force to be reckoned with even without the immense sagacity granted by the Helm of Nabu. Although not one to leap into martial combat like most, Khalid has been trained to defend himself by fellow JSA member Wildcat, and the ancestral memories of Nabu also gift him with the muscle memories of Egyptian warriors that grant him mastery over ancient weaponry.
Equipment: The Helm of Nabu is Fate's omnipresent and signature helm. This golden helm possesses the all-encompassing knowledge of the being of Order known as Nabu, carrying literal millennia of knowledge passed down from sage after sage and possessing knowledge that no one man can rightfully hold without compartmentalizing it all for one's own mental safety. The Helm is capable of hiding Khalid's voice, shapeshifting or becoming invisible, changing Khalid's outfit to whichever fits the situation, and of course bestows upon him the knowledge necessary to activate the vast mystical powers he possesses. It is nigh impossible to remove the helm without significant mystical power, but should it ever be worn by anyone not Khalid, they risk being possessed by the spirit of Nabu and transformed into a servant of Order, or worse, being driven insane by the unimaginable secrets it possesses.
Powers / Abilities
Mysticism - Doctor Fate is rightfully described as one of the most powerful beings in the universe as a result of the mystical powers he wields, commanding the entirety of the forces of Order in his battle against the everpresent threat of Chaos and anarchy. Some of the abilities he is capable of include projecting blasts of mystical power, teleportation, flight, bestowing himself with super strength, projecting protective force fields, banishing, summoning, projecting illusions, transmutation, omnilinguism, and contacting spirits.
The Tower of Fate - As the current guardian of Balance, Fate is given access to a multidimensional tower hidden within the nexus of reality known as the Tower of Fate. Within this infinitely stretching citadel of mystical power, Fate may oversee much of the realm through scrying pools or pay witness to the past or possible futures, and from then decide the next course of action.
Omniscience - Nabu is a supreme diety of knowledge and thus can bestow Khalid access to the way that events can play out. Of course, destiny is never one straight path but one with many roads, and thus while Khalid can observe all routes, it does not necessarily say which route will be the one to come to pass.
Immense Willpower - Khalid has proven to be the only Fate who could dare to resist the whims of Nabu, at times directly defying Order so that he may do what is right, not necessarily what is lawful.
Inza's Guidance - Inza Ben-Hassid, his late wife, still resides in spirit within the Helm as a former bearer of Fate. Although he finds it difficult to discern her voice from the swirling miasma of memories of former Fate's, she still has a habit of delivering the guidance Khalid needs when it is necessary.
Weaknesses
Mental Instability - The Helm of Nabu grants Khalid protection against the intensity of the secrets it bestows, meaning that should Khalid be separated from the Helm, his mind would be splintered and nigh shattered like glass at having to deal with the unimaginable knowledge that he knows.
Nullification - Order and Chaos are mystical opposites, and thus tend to cancel each other out when they collide against each other.
The Binds of Fate - Doctor Fate must abide by the laws of Order and Law, and thus is forbidden from acting outwards of the responsibilities of Fate. He cannot bring the dead back to life, he cannot simply kill a man, he cannot upset the balance of Order and Law, and often times he is not permitted to interfere with the Parliaments unless they begin to directly affect the Balance.
Gas attacks - It has been confirmed that Fate's mystical shields cannot protect him from gaseous attacks.
Possession - The Helm of Nabu will possess any who wear the Helm, transforming them into Fate against their very will. It is for this very reason that Khalid is adamant that only he should be the one to bear the burden of Fate.
Audition post
You Cannot Stop What Is To Come, Khalid. You Of All People Should Know That Fate Is Absolute.
The reverberating words of the hooded figure rung within his mind as clear and as with all the finality as the first time that he had sought the counsel of The Endless, seeking solutions to the ever-present problem that ran circles within the labyrinthine complex his mind had become over the many decades he had carried the burden of Fate. The migraine of indecision pounded upon his brow as various globes of time and space floated in front of him, all a kaleidoscope of past, present, and future. And in each and every future, the outcome may vary in details but the result is the same.
Everyone dies, everything ends, his home, the home of this new and strange dimension that promises to breach the very heavens and come crashing down, it will all burn in a fire of chaos and destruction. Countless trillions will suffer and be extinguished, humanity itself included, and there seemed all too dreadfully clearly that nothing could be done. And for all his efforts, for all his searching.....still the reflection of Nabu's golden visage taunted him in the clear prisms of the scrying pools, prompting him to scatter away the scrolls he pored over upon his desk as he clutched the sides of the mask and let out a cry of frustration. "Damn you! Damn you to every last hell there is, Nabu! And take the Spectre and Destiny and all those that seek to sit by and watch this suffering as if this was not more than a play! I will not sit idly by and let my world be destroyed!" He cursed in a long-dead language as his palms smacked down on the desk whilst pages fluttered in the wind, only for one tell-tale cloth of papyrus and human leather to slowly flutter down in front of him.....an ancient and accursed scroll he could not quite clearly remember having collected in his perusal of the libraries, but the seal upon it set forth a terrible dread in him. It was Enochian, that beautiful language of celestial heralds that rung like church bells even when read, but it was....chilling. To look upon such was to feel an immense cold that settled within one's heart and marrow, to be reminded of something that once burned like the core of every star in the sky, only to be extinguished and snuffed by the judging hand of a father, cast down into a place that many would think warm by it's name, but in his past journeys with a terribly crude man in a trench coat, he knew well to be far, far too cold.
Lucifer. The Devil Himself. And perhaps, the only man Fate could count on to be willing to not only be powerful enough to help stop the coming catastrophe, but be willing to go against God thyself to do such. It was in that moment that Fate....that Khalid knew what he must do. Something that he would never have imagined himself doing, but this was a time of utter emergency, that could not be stopped any other way.
He would have to make a deal with the Devil Himself.
