The Justice League Mini-series Story #9:
Mutant Takeover #1
-Fawcett city bank, 5pm…News reporters and police officers gathered around the scene as the area was closed down by police.- “In a stunning event, Over $100 million has been reported stolen or missing from Fawcett city bank with no explanation as to what happened. Witnesses all appear to have suffered amnesia…” –A Security guard then spoke.- “I was just standing by the vault when suddenly it swung open and all the money was gone. All of it. The drawers to the safe were opened wide.” –A woman spoke.- “Everything was normal, but I thought it was outrageous! I spent 4 hours in a bank for a deposit of my paycheck!” –The news reporter.- “Police have no suspects at this current time…” -Batman sat back watching the television report from the Watchtower cafeteria.-<c>
-Gotham City gala fundraiser for Judge Hady. The woman stood before a crowd of people from a stage.- “…Gotham city, if you help elect me to state senator you will guarantee that I will hold your interests as my best interests!” –The audience would begin applauding when a flock of crows broke through the windows and swarmed the room screaming around the crowd of people. A man landed upon the windowsill before stepping down to walk towards the Judge.- “Who…Who are you? Security!” –The man held a silenced pistol in his left hand as his right arm was pocketed; the sleeve of his green dress suit was thin and appeared scrunched up indicating a deformed arm. The man grinned underneath a green hood masking his face, revealing only lips scarred with cuts from bird talons. His teeth were sharp like daggers. He raised his gun and fired his first shot hitting the Judge’s podium <c>
Causing splinters of wood to splash about. Another shot was fired and struck the Judge in the shoulder throwing her backwards; as she crashed down onto the floor she grabbed hold of microphone and hurled it towards the Crowman smacking him into pausing for a split second. He aimed his pistol towards her lining the silenced pistol’s sights to her left eye as she lied down clutching her bleeding shoulder at the mercy of him. The screams of people and of the crows drown out the sound of the pistols and that of his presence within the room.-
Captain Marvel: Flies towards the bank to get a good view of it before landing. The news crew start to swarm him but he shakes his head waving them back. "Just wait a bit folks, you'll get your turn at the crime scene." He waves and then enters the bank going to the vault to see the exact problem and see what he could possibly do and see if it was possibly magic related. He was no Batman at a crime scene but he could put together what happened once he thought he had all the pieces. Marvel walks over to the Chief and offers his hand to shake. "Did we get a possability of a capture of someone on camera? Might be too much to ask for but you never know."
Helena Wayne: It had been a long night, busting a small arms shipment at the docks had proven to be tiring, especially when one missteps off of a container and ends up trying to swim in Gotham Harbor with a cape dragging you under. Helena sniffled lightly and rolled over in bed, grabbing for a box of tissues as the sneeze came before groaning in irritation as her head pounded from the sudden force as she moved to curl up pathetically. Ah, this was the one of those moments where she really missed having someone watching out for her. “That damn harbor.” Her elbow hit the remote and the TV turned on, the news blaring loudly. “For the love of god!” Helena groped for the remote off of her bedside table, fumbling for the power button before narrowing her eyes as she pushed herself up in bed. ‘Breaking News’ flashed across the screen as there were shots heard followed by screams at the gala, no other details currently given.-c-
Helena Wayne: Muting the television Helena slid out of bed, ignoring the ache of her head as she muted the television. “Of course there’s no sick days for crime fighters.” She grumbled as she headed to her closed to grab her suit and equipment, tugging her hair out of a haphazard braid she had thrown it in after showering only hours before. It was going to be another long night.
Souji Tendou: He held the thug up by the collar of his shirt and growled. "Where!? Tell me where!?" He panted, his armor had been shifted to black in order for a stealth snatch and run but that had failed. His free hand shook while the bad guy groaned from the beating he had taken. "Talk!" He brought his fist up once more to hit the guy in the leg, trying to interrogate him was not going as easily as he thought, the thug had passed out from the pain and Souji just dropped him. His body shook a moment before slamming his fist into the wall of the gangs hide out, though considering they were wanted, he called it in before flying off. The Bioluminescent wings fluttered in the air while he tried to clear his head, his search had taken him all over the planet. From China to Japan, to Canada and beyond, every thug, every good that had a connection to his kidnapping...none knew what had happened. ~Souji I think you need to calm down...this wont find out what happened~ He would growl and flew faster -c-
Souji Tendou: Towards the next city on his list...Gotham...Last place he wanted to be after his last fiasco there with Batman. "I know Kabuto but it was not five years of your life they stole." Since the need for stealth was over the armor reverted to its original color and began to monitor radio trafic hoping to find a lead, any lead. "I will find them Kabuto...And I wont become a monster doing it. I promise..." Hollow if anything, after getting the tip from some...rather interesting character, he had been obsessed with it. -e-
-Fawcett City…The police led Captain Marvel to the vault where he saw the entire thing with drawers and cabinets that were opened and empty. A police officer with lead Captain Marvel into the vault and explain.- “The video surveillance has nothing. Completely blank, and you’d think there would be something…” –Inside Captain Marvel would be able to detect a magic within one of the drawers, if he were to investigate it he would find at the bottom of a drawer was a finite dust that he would be capable of picking up and feeling the magical power that has faded from it. <c>
-Gotham City…The trigger was squeezed but, a security guard tackled the Crowman knocking him forward and slamming him into a salad bar, the bullet struck the Judge in arm causing more blood to splatter around her as she squealed in pain, cradling herself for protection. Screaming continued as Crows attacked people forcing them into retreat, but the hordes of them were way too overbearing for most people to handle. Crowman withdraw his right arm from his pocket and grabbed hold of the security guard a green glow began shining between both men suddenly the deformed arm was restored to appearing normal while the security guard was left as nothing more than skin and bones. With an easy shove the Crowman threw the dead body across the room before standing up to beam his brown eyes towards the cowering judge.-
Captain Marvel: He looked at the offier and nodded. "Well this seems to be the work of other forces then." he made sure to ask the officer if he could have a look around before he picked up something with his magical senses. He strolls over to one of the drawers and pulls it open. He could see a faint mist slowly rising out of it, which meant something of magical interest was nearby. He peers closer before gently picking up some of the residue and rubbing it between his thumbs feeling the magic that had once powered it. He turned to one of the officers and ask if he could borrow a evidence bag. They stared curiously at him for a moment before nodding and handing one over. He slowly grabbed as much as he could but pointed out this fact to the police, and stored the baggie away to examine later. Before he left he took a few questions. "I can't say what was found in there just yet but I am going to invesitigate this and we will get back everybody's money as fast as possible!" he took off and pressed -c-
Captain Marvel: his left finger up to his ear to try and contact Batman. "Hey Batman...I don't know if this is your forte or not but I was hoping you could help me out. Probably saw on the news what happened. I found that whoever got in used magic but I thought you might be able to analyize it better then I could with some of your equitment. Or maybe know someone who might be able to help further?" -e-
Helena Wayne: The motorcycle came to life under her, the sound of the engine barely reaching her ears before she took off down the alley, swinging a hard left into traffic and sped down the road towards the gala. Blue eyes staying on the road, the Huntress lifted her hand up to the side of her mask, pressing a concealed button there to turn on the built in police scanner to get any current updates as she drove. There would be security there, armed guards, was it a hit on the judge? For now that made sense, for now that’s what she’d assume until she could assess the situation herself. Her thoughts strayed for a moment to Batman; would he be there? Briefly she thought about their conversation in Wayne Manor, he’d certainly done his research on Helena Bertinelli, too bad that woman’s weaknesses wasn’t her own. ‘Her strengths aren’t yours either.’ She reminded herself as she slid her bike around another corner, her cape giving a sharp snap as the wind changed directions. -c-
Helena Wayne: The Huntress made the drive in record time as she parked her bike in the back alley behind the building the Gala was held in. No police had made it to the back yet, and she felt like luck was on her side as she moved to the back door where the kitchen staff could come in and out of. Screams were muffled behind the door, becoming louder as she pulled it open, slipping inside. The kitchen was empty, no surprise there and Huntress reached out, grabbing a large silver serving platter as she passed the counter, moving to the doors that lead to the main hall. A quick glance through the windows of the double doors gave her a clear picture of the chaos, and a clear picture that the bleeding woman on the floor was about to become a corpse. “Little time for planning.” She whispered to herself the adrenaline pushing her limbs achy from her cold into feeling powerful and useful for the moment. -c-
Helena Wayne: Ducking low she pushed the doors open and moved into the main hall, making a quick dash for the judge through the scattering and fallen crowd, silver platter still in her hand and hoped she could reach the woman in time.
Souji Tendou: He would growl before getting reports of...Crows of all things, attacking people at a fundraiser with a Gotham City Judge in attendance. "Kabuto..Suggestions?" He gulped hoping he would not be told to go, ever fiber of his being said please dont make me go. However he knew the darned bug will tell him to go. He flew towards the fundraiser hoping to get a better idea of the situation. He moved around in a wide circle, wings flapping and humming loudly, which may have called attention to him. ~You ask for my advice? Give me control and you will have your answers in time~ He sighed knowing this was a bad idea. "Alright, landing to innitiate Cast Off." His feet touched ground and it felt, ominous, something in the air was very very wrong. Electricity sparked over his armor when he flipped the switch. "Cast off." The armor went from heavy defense form to combat mode, and Kabuto took over. The switch was signified by him cracking his neck from side to side, Kabuto needing to adjust -c-
Souji Tendou: To the new body. He grunted and looked around, scanning the area. "Well this will be interesting." He drew the Tachyon blaster at his side and began to search for the cause of all this. Scanners were having little luck tracking where the source was but the scent trackers found the Judge and headed for her. ~Kabut call Batman...Remember we were warned about operating in his city without notifying him.~ "There is a clear choice, notify Batman or condem someone to death." He bursted his way into the room, weapon raised and looking around. "Freeze...One shot from this weapon would leave you incapacitated for several hours." Looking at the only man in the room not wearing a suit, Judge's robes or Guard uniform. -e-
Fawcett city…Upon touching the dust Captain Marvel would listen to sound freeze around him. Suddenly a bright yellow and white light appeared before him blinding and remarkably mystical. Captain Marvel’s communication would be muted as he was frozen in time with The Light. A females voice spoke.- “Light.” –Her voice spoke when suddenly he was blinded. Light then appeared behind him and swung a golden whip towards Captain Marvel attempting to throw him into the wall; if he was struck by the whip he would feel his magical powers drained with the lashing as well he wouldn’t break through the wall instead he would smash into a magical barrier that felt as solid as concrete. Light would retract her whip and swing to grapple onto Marvel’s ankle and throw him across the vault into the very back section, releasing him after attempting to throw him.-<c>
Gotham City…Crowman’s eyes detected and spotted Huntress’ arrival and fired a shot, but it was intercepted by Huntress’ use of a silver plate. Crowman lowered his gun as the crows began flocking to assault Huntress, ravaging and clawing at her outfit, the sound of screaming and calls of the avian creatures rang loudly in her ears as they picked and clawed at her face and hair. Crowman’s gaze turned towards Kabuto as he arrived aiming his Tachyon gun, Crowman aimed his right palm towards Kabuto to unleash an energy blast that, if it struck him, would throw him backwards slamming him into the wall. His energy would be slightly phased while his body would begin glowing a faint green, unknown to Kabuto it was a stacking affect amplifying the damage of future attacks.-
Captain Marvel: As soon as he touched the dust, he could feel magic at work. He raises his arms up to cover his eyes from the sudden brightness and stared in awe for a moment until he realized he was stuck and was half blinded as she spoke out loud. Although since this was a magical realm he did have some sense of what was happening around him and was able to dodge out of the way of the first whip rolling to the floor and went back to his feet. "Wait I just want to talk-" He was yanked foward, his feelt dropping out from under him falling onto his back and was tossed across the vault and slammed into the back and tried to catch his breath and to get a feel for what was going on. "Light!" he spoke her name not sure if she would reappear or how long this...vision would last. It was possible he had just found the thief and found out why people had lost time. Did they all experience this or perhaps he could witness this since he was powerful in the Magical Arts? Either way he tried to communicate -c-
Captain Marvel: "Light...who are you? And what was so important in these vaults that you had to steal everyone's money? Magical beings have no need for it. So what is it you want?"
Helena Wayne: The shot rang out, clear as day as the platter jerked in her hand, smacking against her side and hip as she slid to a stop by the judge. “Son of a…” Turning her fierce blue eyes towards the man who fired the shot, she received a glimpse of the man dressed in some sort of armor who drew away the attention of the attacker as the birds descended, blocking her vision and making the ears ring with their cries. “What the in the hell is with these birds?!” She managed as claws left stinging trails of red across her cheek, Crouching down over the judge she flipped the platter in her hand, gripped it with both of her gloved hands and began swinging it, the thud of the bodies of the birds echoing slightly off of the metal as she gave little care to where their feathery bodies landed, black plumes seeming to explode around her as she tried to fend off the birds. -c-
Helena Wayne: Clearing the birds from her face she grabbed onto her cape and flipped it over her own head, letting it hang down like a protecting shield over the torsos of both women. Dropping the platter to the floor, letting the toe of her boot catch it so as not to make as much noise Huntress took a deep breath. Severely limited her own sight with the cape, she reached down and snagged the judge around the waist. “I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to be careful of your wounds.” Was her only apology as she lifted the woman to take her back through the kitchen doors and to exit with her, boots slipping on the blood on the floor a bit as she moved.-e-
Souji Tendou: He would be hit, and hard. ~AAaarh...What was that!?~ "I dont know....better....be on guard from here on out. Reserving Tachyons...I am disengaging the gun from suits weapons. We will not be able to use it." He panted, the armor's functions had flickered when he was hit, though being slammed into the wall probably did not help at all. He took in a full measure of the remaining tachyon particles in the suit and the number of cells he had for reserve. "Souji...I think we may need to call in help." He clenched his fists, the metal and bio mesh hardened as he charged forward, micro fibers on the souls of his boots grabbing the ground for added traction increasing his speed by half. He began to analyze the man in order to learn his abilities and adapt. "Rule 23 Always learn everything you can about your foe." He would launch into the air, spinning to bring a heavy boot at who or what ever this thing was. ~Kabuto be careful, that hit drained our power reserves to 93% ~ -e-
-Fawcett City…Captain Marvel would begin feeling a digital like tone from the bright beam of light.- “No! You stand against EVERYTHING! Order must be preserved!” –She began screaming her voice angelic and harmonic like a digital computer.- “You must stop what you’re doing NOW!!!!” –Suddenly the dust would explode releasing a rippling effect that forced the building and the vault to collapse Captain Marvel. His body would be damaged, forced into bleeding as cuts and scrapes marked his body.-<c>
-Gotham City…Crowman ran towards the window when he was suddenly kicked in the back forcing him to smash into a wall, Crowman’s pistol dropped to the ground causing him to turn around suddenly a transformation occurred and large black wings appeared behind him. the area consumed by feathers as the wings stretched to wrap Kabuto’s arms and legs from behind his position. Crowman’s face revealed to be an eight eyed monster with a large crows beak closing distance towards Kabuto’s large blue eyes. A deep voice spoke in a growl.- “Can you see the darkness closing in?” –The crows began surrounding Kabuto and Crowman, Crowman’s right arm unleashed a second blast, if it struck him he would no doubt reduce his power to 76%, but if his wings were holding Kabuto in place, Crowman would unleash an additional shots that would reduce Kabuto’s power down to 50%.- <c>
-The Judge was carried out as Huntress saw a few people cowering within the kitchen to take shelter from the trauma outside. A woman would scream.- “He’s got him! He’s got him! Oh god he’s got him!”
Helena Wayne: Kicking open the kitchen doors, Huntress threw her cape back off of her head, looking around and spotted the people. ‘For the love of god, why don’t you have the flight instinct?’ She thought as she shifted the judge in her arms, holding her firmly with her right arm Huntress reached down and clamped her hand on the upper arm of the screaming woman, hard and vice like to shake her from her fear. “I’ll take care of it. I need you to take this woman out to the police, do you understand?” Her voice was hard, cold tones of seriousness and demand that very few could muster but that she had learned from the best. Blue eyes scanned the others as she passed the judge to them, and pushed them towards the back door, making sure they exited before turning back to the double doors. Turning her head she coughed against her shoulder, the force of the air exiting her lungs making her head pound in rhythm with it as she reached down, snatching her crossbow from her thigh and loading a bolt into it. -c
Helena Wayne: Marching back through the kitchen to the double doors of the main hall, the Huntress didn’t hesitate as she saw the Crowman attacking Kabuto, taking aim and letting the bolt fly from the crossbow. She had taken aim at the wings wrapped around the armor, positioned the loosed bolt to glance off the armor as it would tear through feathers and flesh, hopefully to aid in the release of the trapped man.-e
Souji Tendou: He would scream out in pain, the power meter would drop rapidly, he only had one shot. "The...only darkness....is that...which we...create!" He was able to get his hand to his belt buckle and pressed the top buttons. "Full discharge, maximum dispersal." His eyes shifted from blue to yellow are armor shifted into a black color. The meter would slowly rise as he drained all the back up cells at one time, shocked it was taking so much to keep the armor from breaking. The gem on his chest would glow before a massive bolt of Tachyon particles surged out from him, the collision of the particles with the air alone would cause an electro magnetic charge which synced to the one on his head. He growled out once more before chuckling. "However...I was...born in..the dark. Detonate." His eyes would glow bright yellow as the particles collided in hopes of creating an envelope of tachyon particles which would electrify the air. He would be caught in the blast, but if it saved the Judge, he would -c-
Souji Tendou: Do it with out any fears or regrets knowing it could severely injur himself. But by the time Huntress rejoined the game his power cells were dangerously low, it was either revert to defense form to restore a small amount of Tachyon particles or let the armor fail, causing harm to Souji. He and Souji both decided the sacrifice was enough, using the last of his power cell to send a burst S.O.S. to any device that could potentially have a direct line to Batman, sending a small amount of footage from the battle. He would thank her for the aid had he not already innitiated the discharge protocols, though the arrow bouncing off his shoulder probably did not help and slowed it down.-e-
-Crowman screamed feeling a crossbow bolt puncture its wing, the sound of a bird crying out before the blast unleashed throwing Crowman out of the building and through the wall, the large black bird suddenly transformed back into a human being with a crippled right arm, he slammed into a brick windowsill frame before flipping feet first into the window seemingly crippled. Crows vanished leaving black feathers all around them as people in the room were still cowering underneath tables and other objects.-
Helena Wayne: As the energy was released, Huntress turned, pulling her cape up over her face protectively with her left hand as her right slipped the crossbow back into its holder on her thigh. Shifting as the crash of the Crowman flying through the wall settled she let her cape drop then hissed out a breath as the S.O.S. signal Kabuto projected interfered with the earpiece in her mask, causing her ears to ring with the sudden squeal. “Son of a bitch.” She snarled, barely resisting the urge to throw off her mask and instead reached up, clicking off the earpiece quickly. Looking after the Crowman she moved across the hall, boots crunching a bit over debris as she walked past Kabuto almost dismissively for the moment and jumped out after the Crowman and moving to him, staying out of arms reach. Crouching down she grabbed a bolt from her utility belt and poked at the mans foot with it. “Don’t be dead, I don’t want a lecture. Though I wasn’t the one to fry you.” She muttered glancing back over her shoulder towards the hall.
Souji Tendou: He shook his head as the disorientation wore off and he took off after Huntress. He had to rely on his own martial training from when he was growing up now if he got into trouble. He slid to see her poking the foot of the...what ever and reached behind his back, what was he reaching fore? Well when he pulled his hand back he had managed to conceal a pair reinforced arm guards with metal plated finger tips as well. He would place plugs in his ears, since they were still ringing and some noises hurt like hell. ~Souji. My cells are down to 1% it will take me a full day to recorver, your own injuries are severe. Recommend we let her hand it.~ "No you got me into this, you issued the Discharge. I will help with or without the armor if need be." He panted, Kabuto was right, one fractured rib, one pulled muscle, several torn muscles and one segment of his spin slightly off alignment from the pressure. Most of it was nothing a night sleep, and the nanites in his body, could not cure. -c-
Souji Tendou: He would look to Huntress as he readied himself, looking around to get a feel of where things were and what was around him. "Sorry about the screaching in the ears. I hoped to call in help, but I think the transmitter was damaged in the initial hit." -e-
-The Crowman shivered until he felt the bolt poke his foot causing him to grab his right arm to cradle it, his left hand gripped his bicep. It was then they would see his right arm begin glowing with two inch large transparent pods within his right arm. The once white skin now tainted completely black as if burned with 1st degree burns, the skin flaky and crispy in appearance. The pods seemed to have small pebbles floating within a green pus or gas like fluid. The Crowman let loose a soft moan like a bird calling for help. The pods were bubbly in appearance like large poison ivy inflammations except they were transparent and green. The right hand appeared like a birds talon while his palm contained a pocket capable of unleashing the pus or gas within each pod. His arm contained three pods on his fore arm and small pimple like bubbles along his arm that were glowing green and transparent, almost like a disease.- <C>
His green robe and burnt and damaged after the fight. His hair would reveal underneath the cloak that it was black and slicked back by gel. His eyes were a bright red color and appeared blood shot as they frantically shot between both of them as a bird would an enemy closing distance. He was panicking, however; he was powerless to escape or fight back.-
Helena Wayne: At the approach of Kabuto, her fingers twisted the bolt around in her hand as she closed her hand around it in a fist, aiming it back towards the approaching man, though he would not be able to see it. Remaining crouched, she hunched her shoulders, cape coming around her almost protectively, concealing the rest of her from view. She turned her head only slightly, fierce blue eyes glancing back and upwards to Kabuto before they turned back towards Crowman and narrowed. She had heard the statement, but had other things to worry about than knowing just who he had signaled. “Who are you? Why were you hear to kill the judge?” Huntress demanded of the panicking man as she inspected his arm. A shiver went through her, barely noticeable as she realized the crows had disappeared, and her hand nearly moved up to touch the scratches on her cheek.-c-
Helena Wayne: ‘Is it a disease? Would those birds have been infected?’ She pushed the thoughts away almost as soon as they came then reached out with her left hand, scraping a small glass slide across his burnt arm and pustule like bubbles before tucking it into her utility belt, swiftly collecting his DNA as well as a feather as her hand moved along the ground back to her belt.
Souji Tendou: He stopped where he was and crossed his arms. His eyes locked on the person. "Could he...no.." He shook the thought away and watched Huntress. Something in the back of his mind, aside from Kabuto was eating at him. ~Souji Interrogate, find out if he knows anything about~ He grunted and cut Kabuto off before he could finish and took a deep breath. "What he did was no disease. His energy pulses easily drained my Tachyon cells. When he had me in his grip, he ate my cells in seconds. Even my reserves did not last long and were near failure when you came in. Thank you though." He hoped Batman got the burst transmission he was sent.
-The Crowman shivered more letting out a moan feeling the glass cutting his delicate skin. Red blood began seeping through the small cut on his arm, but he would still not talk as he lied on the ground in a sort of paralysis. Police sirens began closing in around them while people rushed out of the gala event.- “It was a Superhuman!” –People were shouting and panicking.- “What is going on?” –Some people asked as they were frightened and unaware of what was happening in the larger picture of things.-
Helena Wayne: Glancing at the blood she then stood suddenly, the police were closing in, and she wasn’t exactly a welcome party in Gotham City. Turning to face Kabuto she watched him for a moment. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Tachyon cells.” Sweeping past him, her cape would smack him in the legs as she moved towards the back of the building. The Crowman wasn’t going to go anywhere, he’d be put into Arkham, and the people who observed could be sure to tell the police what had happened. She thought back to the sample she had collected and the words of the stranger, there wasn’t a way for her to analyze the sample, to tell for sure. Pausing she looked over her shoulder towards Kabuto. “Are you coming or not?” Not waiting for an answer, she moved behind the building towards her motorcycle, she needed equipment, and she knew exactly where to find just what she needed. “Let’s hope they keep the same passwords and that he‘s already out prowling.”
Helena Wayne: Huntress muttered to herself and slid onto her bike.
Souji Tendou: He nodded and walked behind her. He would look back as cops came around the corner. "Names Souji." Was all he said before getting on the bike behind her, Kabuto crawling onto his head and expanded forming a helmet of sorts. Watching that back there made him sick but...hard to make a dead man sick. Thinking of what had happened to that person, how he was named dead after five years..that and a clone being found dead in some random ally in his home town did not help so a need for a secret identity was less then desired. "And where are we going."
Helena Wayne: Starting up the bike she glanced back at the man behind her then took off down the alleyway, tapping her fingers a bit on the handle bars. As she spotted something red on her gloves she sighed, the damn judge bled on her, nice. Ignoring all traffic laws, she weaved her way in and out of cars glancing back at Souji once again. “The name is Huntress.” Unlike him, she liked her secret identity just fine, and would keep it secret until she saw fit. “We’re going someplace rather…special.” Turning into another back alley she slowed the bike to a stop and reached up, brushing her hair back from her face as she slid off of her bike. Shifting to face him she placed a hand on his shoulder and leaned in close. “Thank you for helping me out back there.” She smiled, charmingly before leaning in and pressing her full lips to his in the same moment she tightened her grips on his shoulder, pulling him down as her knee came up, slamming into his stomach, her lips breaking from his. -c-
Helena Wayne: "Don't take it personally."
Souji Tendou: His eyes went wide the moment her knee planted into his stomach. Kabuto chittered for a moment before scanning the scent in the air. It took a moment but he determined she meant no real danger, for emotions and intent had their own scent and she smelled or neither Mallice or evil. Considering what she did he could only sumise the place she was taking him was utterly secret so it would deactive its tracking unit and calmed down. There was one perk, he would crawl onto her, moving up to her shoulder, and yes, bit her in order to implant a neural linking device. ~Was that appropriate? I thought people used head bags to hide locations these days or knock out gas." The big floated in the air a moment before locking onto Souji once more, taking control of the unconcious boy. He adjusted the clothing cracking his neck. "There...You incapacitated my partner. So Huntress was it. Where are you taking him?" His voice inflections, the way he responded, nothing like the boy from moments ago.
Helena Wayne: Huntress jumped as she felt the bite, smacking quickly at the bug before scowling taking a step back. “Sorry fresh out of knockout gas.” ’I should invest in that.’ She thought scowling as the man she undoubtedly knocked cold woke up once more, though he was different. “This is going to be a long damn night.” Shaking her head she lifted the front seat of her bike and pulled out a book bag, dumping the contents into the hollow seat before sticking the book bag on Souji’s head and zipping it up around his neck. “Just…sit there and shut up, or get off the bike now.” Patience was thin, she had things to do, and this guys was turning out to be more trouble than he was worth. Sliding back onto the bike and starting it up she drove off, holding back a cough as her head pounded and she used basic muscle memory to get her to where she wanted to go. -c-
Helena Wayne: The Batbunker. Nerves sparked to life in her as her gut twisted, it was a risky move, but one she was willing to take a chance on as she drove to the entrance and slid off of the bike.
Souji Tendou: He took and helped her steady yourself. "Are you alright." He keps his hands on her upper arms, the strain on the body was evident as Kabuto tried to keep control. Hands shook and eyes closed some, trying to force the body to recove was difficult in this manner. He would let her go after a few seconds and waited. "The boy...why not him out, I am curious as to organic customs." So like a body contorlling robot to ask...
-Once inside the Batbunker a batcomputer terminal was already activated and ready for use. The entire room was completely blank appearing to only have lights and a computer. The walls had small compartments intended for incinerating evidence and files. Towards the ends of the room, the walls contained 3 batpods and 3 motorcycles like the one Huntress was using. Underneath the floor in certain sections; that only Huntress knew, there were activation panels that could open the floor and raise up an armory of either gadgets or a Batsuit. There was also a forensics and chemical laboratory located underneath the floor beside the Batcomputer.-
Helena Wayne: “Don’t touch anything.” She said over her shoulder as she walked to the console, boots clicking uncomfortably loud on the floor. ‘At least there is no where he can hide in here. I’ll see him coming.’ Moving to activate the forensics and chemical laboratory first, she slipped the slide from her utility belt and slid it under the scope before sitting hard in the chair at the console. Rubbing the back of her neck she put in the commands for the computer to analyze what she had found. “Why was this already on…?” The question was lost in the haze of her headache as her arms protested any movements with a dull ache. ‘Couldn’t just have a quiet night.’ Sighing softly she waited for the results, knee bouncing under the console as she did.
Souji Tendou: It would nod before sitting down and leaning back on the wall. The big let go of Souji's body to let him rest and crawled his way over, crawling up her cape to sit upon her shoulder, using the implant to comunicate. ~So, what have you learned. And forgive the bit earlier, only means of comunication is by sub dermal transmitter chip.~ The red bug looked to her before turning its optics back to the computer screen trying to make sense of what it saw.
-The scope would reveal nothing unusual to her eyes; she wasn’t exactly a geneticist to know what she was looking for exactly, however; after analyzing so much human DNA for crime scenes Huntress would be able to infer the DNA is not exactly human, rather it’s mutated and cycled through its owners kidneys. The scope would immediately bring up stats and analysis of the data onto the computer revealing 530 different variations that were possible, 130 possible viruses, 1,012 bacteria leads, and 1 DNA match. The computer would then announce.- ‘Updating database.’ –Transmitting the data collected to the other batcomputers while also seeking new information from the other batcomputers.-
Helena Wayne: “If you’re a bug that can talk to me, I’ll assume you can read.” Huntress nodded to the screen as she looked it over. “Wings sprouting from his back, thanks Sherlock for telling me the obvious, not human.” She muttered under her breath then blanched as soon as it announced as it was updating the database. “Shit! No, no wait. Stop!” Banging her hands down on the desk, she snarled a bit at the computer. “You always were a pain in my ass.” Great, one could hope Batman wasn’t sitting at any of the other bat computers and looking at the time she tried to estimate if he was how long it would be before he got there. Pulling up the DNA match she stood and hit another panel, grabbing a first aid kit as she pulled off her gloves, quickly cleaning out the cuts on her cheek and coughed hard against her inner arm. Resisting the urge to flick the bug away she grabbed it and tossed it back onto Souji’s body. “Stop being so nosy. I’ll deal with you…two…later.”
The DNA match would reveal a amateur quality profile picture of man mutated into an Arachnid / Human hybrid. The DNA on the screen did not seem the same and yet the computer claimed they were a match. The Profile of the Arachnid classified him as “Subject 01” and revealed his official government profile as James G. Grower; Master Sergeant in the United States Army, reported dead 6 years ago as he was killed in Iraq. Additional information shows that his credit card was still in use 6 months after he was announced dead with his bills being signed by his mother…There was no further information.-
Helena Wayne: Cleaning up what she used she slid her gloves back on then moved to the incinerator to burn the alcohol pad she had used on her cheek before moving back to the console. Leaning down with one hand on the desk she looked over the information, a frown pulling at the corners of her mouth. “A Crowman, and this?” Brows pulling together she drummed her fingers before reaching up and rubbing the back of her neck. “Test subjects, obviously, like the name didn’t give it away. Alters DNA, gives you a hell of a Metahuman. Government profile, government experiment?” Looking at the credit card usage she sat back in the chair slowly. “Death certificate plain as day. I wondered if they volunteered for this service or were volunteered. And I wonder where Master Sergeant Grower is now.” Reaching out she cleared the data on screen then just sat for a moment, allowing her body to relax as her eyes closed. “Wouldn’t mind if my brain capacity was running at full tonight.”
Souji Tendou: Kabuto jumped from her shoulder. "STOP!" He looked at the screen and its back opened up. "THese look familiar....do a search on non metagene experiments with same parameters~ It turned to her, chattering away. It looked to Souji thinking it may have just found the answer to their questionm. ~Is this what our informant meant by answers....~ It turned once more trying to integrate its own search device into the computer but was met with a violent shock.
Helena Wayne: Huntress looked at the bug as it told her to stop, a brow raising before she leaned away from it a bit as its back opened up with a ‘What the hell are you doing?’ kind of look on her face. “Okay…” Turning her attention back to the screen she ran a search for what is asked, tapping her fingers of her left hand on her thigh then shook her head as it was shocked. “I told you not to touch anything. Why is it people…erm…things, don’t listen?”
Souji Tendou: It growled and clicked its back panals ~Just see if there any experiments matching what me and Souji are. Symbiotic Enhanced living weapons." It would try again, this time only downloading the data as it came up, if it came up. Kabuto was worried, if this was what happened to them then there would be nothing either could do. ~Five years ago, narrow to five years ago~ Strange it had been a month since they escaped, but five years since Souji was taken, four since pronounced dead.
-The computer began searching when it began scrolling through the file revealing the soldiers history. A few moments of silence would pass when suddenly the presence of darkness shrouded the area, the lights shut off in the area except for around Souji and Huntress, almost like a beacon within the darkness, a deep voice, growling some in tone.- (Conroy) “Huntress…What is *he* doing here?” –Batman’s dark figure stood towering over both of them, his cape wrapped around his body iconic similarities to a vampire lord as it gave illusion that his body was that of darkness surrounding the room. Amongst the light his armor softly glowed and reflected the white lights. His head was held down in a lowered posture allowing the light to force shadows over his eye sockets, nostrils, and chin. He would appear almost as if he had no face except for the dark shadows concealing the white skin of his chin forcing it to appear darker than usual.
Helena Wayne: Her blue eyes watched the screen tiredly as it began scrolling through the data, and she only acknowledged Kabuto with a soft grunt. Obviously he was using her to gather his own information, though if it helped her in her own investigation she wasn’t going to complain. As the lights shut off around them, her heart thudded hard in her chest as her hand reached down instinctively for her crossbow. Hearing the voice suddenly above her Huntress jerked backwards sucking in a breath in surprise, the chair pitching backwards and falling over as she used the momentum to roll back into crouching position, into the shadow as she pulled her crossbow, trying to stifle a few coughs before giving in, coughing hard against her shoulder until stars danced in her vision. He hadn’t attacked, he simply asked a question. Taking in a deep breath she stood up slowly, but kept her crossbow in her hand, her arm lose the bolt pointed towards the floor. –c
Helena Wayne: “He assisted me at the Gala for Judge Hady. The man was injured, fighting a metahuman I couldn’t just leave him there.” Tiredness leaked into her voice that crackled with the effort to sound bold and strong through the cold.
Souji Tendou: The bug would chitter nearly non stop. To Batman it would sound like bug clicking, Huntress would understand hopefully. ~Huntress it seems out paths crossed by chance, but from what I can gather this is the right track as to finding out what happened to me and Souji. Tell him that we will submit to justice for this intrusion, Souji is injured and needs to rest, and I must recharge Tachyon cells. It seems I cannot get the information I am after.~ It retracted its injector and turned looking to the dark figure. ~Warning, detection of spreading infection has been detected. Meta human gene unstable. Recomend immediate antibacterial injection~
-Batman watched hardly moving with Huntress’ actions preparing for combat.- “He’s a case study in itself…In the past month there has been a spike in super and metahuman activities around the world. As if evolution has suddenly started to kick in. Hardly a coincidence…The attack on Judge Hady is a part of a series of events happening around the world. I think someone is trying to kill politicians who are activists in criminal affairs. All of the targets have pushed for harder regulations and tougher enforcement on criminal activity. Judge Hady is just one of many. Senator John Sidney, Governor Kevin Blake, Prosecutor Aaron Davidson…These are just the local American targets…the list goes on. National security policies in our country are also declining…It all points to one thing.”
Helena Wayne: She glanced to the bug on her shoulder then to Batman. “The bug wants me to tell you “we will submit to justice for this intrusion but Souji is injured and I must recharge” whatever that means.” Her left hand moved up, pushed up her mask enough for her to pinch the bridge of her nose to ease the pressure in her sinuses before dropping her hand back to her side. Huntress listened to Batman speak shifting her weight from one foot back to the other as she stayed in the shadows, letting her cape fall over her shoulders and arms, shielding her a bit. “Judge Hady will live, I got to her in time, she had been shot, lost blood but from what I could see would recover. “I don’t suppose you feel like telling me what it all points to?”
-Batman looked at her as she explained, his gaze never leaving her as he stared, watching from the darkness with a faint glow of light from the ceiling hitting his armor forcing the black to reflect the white beams. A blank expression on Batman’s face, un-amused at her response.- ‘Still an idiot…If she actually *tried* she would’ve saved Judge Hady before she was even hurt.’ “Someone is pulling strings…manipulating world governments…Did you get a sample of the boys DNA?” –Batman’s soft pink and tan lips were still and calm in motion…He *is* a superhuman after all…”
Helena Wayne: It certainly didn’t take an expert to know what the looks on Batman’s face meant, it only took growing up with one. Her jaw clenched as she slipped her crossbow into its holder, and as if she read his mind as breezed past him, shoulders and back stiff as she moved to the forensics table, slipping the sample she had gotten from the machine. “You think you could have done better? By all means, let’s go back in time to where I caught what was happening on the news, and your ass was nowhere to be seen. If I hadn’t of been there, she would have died. Congrats on keeping up with the events in *your* city.” Ill tempered and just plain ill she took in a deep and silent breath to calm herself, even as the blood rushed past her ears carrying the sounds of her pounding heart. ‘Shut your mouth Helena. Just let him think what he wants, you’re Bertinelli, he doesn’t mean a damn thing to you and neither does his opinion.’ Turning she held out the slide, blue eyes cold as she remained silent.
“I didn’t say that.” –He responded as she was feeling his judgment cast upon her. Her insecurity was evident by her reaction and choice of words.- “I didn’t have to come…That’s what you’re here for. You want to prove that you’ve changed. Start acting like it. Start taking responsibility. If you can’t take care of Gotham while I’m not here, I’ll find someone who can.” –Batman watched her back as she took position at the table.- ‘She’s like a teenager…She *is* a teenager She’s about the same age as Dick…Unlike Dick, she seems to lack discipline…Maybe this is what happens when I’m *not* in a child’s life…I haven’t spoken to Dick in almost 10 months…Is this what he’ll turn into without me?’
Helena Wayne: The instinct to roll her eyes on his lecture was strong, but she managed to continue to level him with the same stare he’d level at others himself. Her arm didn’t lower as the slide was still held out to him, and a brow rose in mock question. “Oh? And who exactly is going to take care of Gotham in your stead?” ‘Who in their right mind would put up with you. Is this what would have happened to my father if he never married my mother? If he was constantly alone? What a grumpy old man.’ “I don’t exactly see people lining up at the door to be in any kind of partnership with you.” Impatience struck her and she shook her hand once at him. “Take your damn sample, don’t think you have any room to lecture me. You’re *not* my father. You’re not even my partner. You’re just the guy whose equipment I borrowed.”
Souji Tendou: He groaned as his eyes fluttere open, the beetle shot over to him, landing on his chest chirping lightly. "Not...not so loud." He held his head and tried to focus, everything was so fuzzy. Sounds were muffled as he came out of unconciousness, bruised and sore but most the major damage healed. "Where...Did I get him?"
“It takes *team work* to function within *this* family. If you’re unable to do that, if you can’t work as a team then get out.” –Batman took a step closer, his voice deepening into a growl. Batman’s fists clutched in anger and frustration.- ‘She’s stubborn, inflexible, and arrogant…Who does she think she is…? Who does she think she’s talking to…?’ –Batman’s chin and lips remained calm expressionless as his eyes narrowed revealing small tension in his chin as his eyes rose underneath his mask.-
Helena Wayne: “I see that I’m doing a lot of *work* and getting a lot of lecturing from you. At what point in time have you ever given the hint or notion that we’re a *team*?” As he took a step closer, her right foot slid back slightly, positioning herself in case he decided to take a swing at her. Her blue eyes flashed almost dangerously at the small but aggressive movement. ‘Yeah, that’s right, try to intimidate me, you’re the great and mighty Batman. But I won’t back down from you, I can take anything you throw at me.’ Her eyes narrowed back, in almost mirrored appearance to his own, her own hands clenching into fists in frustration and anger. She was sick, and she was tired and honestly the combination really made her want her parents, but instead she was stuck with him. Breathing in to speak the air caught in her throat and she quickly turned her head away to cough hard into the crook of her elbow, eyes closing momentarily, brows pulling together. ‘Damn it. Some intimidating Huntress you are.'
Souji Tendou: He would grunt and stood while they were argueing. "Huntress...You need...a dose of anti-biotics." He grunted as Kabuto crawled onto his shoulder. He took a deep breath, feeling his sides hurting from the action. "Kabuto scanned an increase in bacteria inside you, in me as well. Something in at thing we saw is poisonous..." He would grunt as Kabuto bit him, Kabuto was able to syphone the bacteria out but at the cost of major energy to both himself and Souji. "Now please...stop...arguing..."
-Batman watched as she broke out into a cough, the appearance of her brief moment of distress caused him to back up.- ‘She looks like Selina…A memory of her choking, one that I don’t enjoy reliving or thinking about…’ –Batman studied Huntress for a moment before taking a step back as Souji spoke and tried to cease their arguing. Batman pulled away from both of them.- “Keep me posted regarding the case. We have a planetary crisis I need to attend to…Don’t fail me, Huntress.” –And with that Batman dematerialized into a bright white beam of energy vanishing completely.-
The Justice League Mini-series Story #9:
